Pierpont BOG AAS Update (Re: Transcripts)
(12-11-2020, 02:40 PM)utility Wrote: Just got the degree in the mail.  It also comes with sealed transcripts (which I opened).  Total paid to Pierpont: $0

This is the best deal out there for a real degree.

Are you on the east coast or west coast? Was it sent priority or regular mail? I'm wondering when I can expect mine to show up.

Awesome, thanks! So if they mailed everything out at the same time, mine will probably arrive next week.

The other Pierpont thread says that they do not.

I will say this, Nancy Parks is no longer the head of the BOG program/department. However, she and the assistant registrar, and the admissions folks are the only people who seem to reply. Nancy Parks was brought in to my application, when the current head of the program never answered a single email, even when initiated by other staff at the school.

The first steps are simply to apply to the college and then get admitted. Reach out to admissions and let them know that you are wanting to apply to the BOG AAS, and they will send you another application to fill out and send back. From this point, or ideally, as soon as you apply to the school, start sending transcripts. Electronically the best address is admit@pierpont.edu. It takes quite a long time for their process of evaluation to take place, but you can keep track of what they have applied to your record by going to "My Pierpont" (accessible at https://www.pierpont.edu/portal ) and then accessing their student record system ROAR and navigating to Student --> Student Records --> Academic Transcript. That said, getting my credentials set up involved several emails and two phone calls with their student support center.

When you have come close to meeting the requirements, or submitted all of your transcripts, reflecting 60 hours (with 12 regionally accredited hours) and a 21 hour division to include 6 hours in communications, 6 hours in math/science, 6 hours social sciences, and 3 hours in computer literacy (note: they don't accept the CLEP available in this area), request an application to graduate from your advisor and submit it.

Cause I have a bunch of RA credits that duplicate previous ACE credits used in my degree and I'd love to park them somewhere and have something to hang on the wall and show for it that also has an area of emphasis.
Could be useful to credential skills on my CV.
So how do you pull this off?

See my above post. I recommend going in with a lot of patience and grace, seeing as the college will likely be making no money from you, you should be aware that kind persistence and a good dose of patience in the correct balance will get you everywhere.

Please note that technically the college system's Board of Governors have dictated that this should only be available as a first degree (though I've only found that outside of the Pierpont site) so I suspect submitting any transcripts showing a conferred degree will render you ineligible.
What if you don’t have a computer literacy course?! I have everything but that.

Probably the fastest way to get this done is with SDC's Library Science 101: Information Literacy. This is an EXTREMELY short course that will take maybe 1 or 2 days to complete. It's important to know how to do SDC courses before you begin. Read this page before signing up: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/St..._Structure

A month of SDC costs $200 and grants you access to 2 exams during that period. So you could sign up, take information literacy, immediately cancel and ignore SDC for now or you can sign up, take information literacy, and use the remainder of the month to take a course that would be essential to your ultimate degree plan.

Also, there are some discounts for SDC floating around but you cannot get these discounts AT ALL after you sign up. You'll need to consider carefully whether to take the 1-month discount or the discounted 1-year price. Both have benefits. Both have drawbacks.

Sophia's Introduction to IT might work at Pierpont but I seem to remember someone saying that it didn't work for them. You could certainly give it a shot and then do the SDC course if the Sophia route doesn't pan out.

I checked my transcript. I have history of technology (shmoop), the TEEX courses, the Sophia IT course, and a media literacy course. They're all slotted as FREL (free electives.) None of them indicate which met the computer literacy requirement.
I mean if you're applying online and sending them digital transcripts, you'd think they'd know you're computer literate. ?

Looking it over, I'm kind of surprised they claimed I didn't have enough credits for a History AOE. I have Western Civ, US History I and II, Art History I and II, Ancient Greek Philosophers, History of Technology, and Human Origins (although that's usually classified as a hard science). How much more history does one need?

As Rachel pointed out, it's not especially clear whether or not Sophia Intro to IT would be accepted. You could comb the Pierpont BOG AAS threads, I believe there was at least one graduate for whom it was accepted, for whatever that's worth. Alternately, you could send over your transcripts, get an eval, and then ask if they will accept Sophia Intro to IT to complete your degree.

Another low-cost option might be Davar Academy's ENG103 Information Literacy, for $80 plus a $15 proctor fee. The problem there is that Davar is an NCCRS provider, and there seems to be some sort of bizarre problem at Pierpont right now with regard to accepting NCCRS credits. If you're interested in taking that course, I would verify in advance that they'll accept it, and if so, how it should be transcripted.
