Do you have to be in the military to use this resource? I have no affiliation to the military. When I try to register it asks what branh I am in. How do I get around that?

Eligibility includes the military and families of the military. You can choose the branch that any of your family is/was in. Most people have someone in their family either in the military, or retired from one of the past wars. If you don't have some relative in the military then your not technically allowed to use the site I guess. I've seen others simply choose one of the branches and register, but I'm not saying you should do that.
