For the problems where prof says "show your work" I at least explain what the Excel OM sheet does, so he knows I know the concept. I'm on Exam IV as I write, Excel OM is my friend.
Visio came in handy for flow charts and misc drawings later on. If you can get a cheap edu copy or a similar program that might be beneficial.
