(Newbie) Affordable Accelerated Nursing Program
#11
It seems like the MSU accelerated program is by far your best choice. Even at WGU, probably the most transfer friendly nursing program, you can't get much, and then you'd have to contend with finding your own clinical placements. It sounds like MSU would help you out there. Michigan is also outside of WGU's nursing program range, unless you want to drive back and forth from Ohio a bunch.

There appear to be two catches with the MSU program: You need to take prerequisites to get into the program, and you won't be able to start the program until next May.

I'm guessing your previous degrees did not cover any of the following areas except for statistics:

ANTR 350: Human Gross Anatomy for Pre-Health Professionals (Take this & physiology first)
CEM 141: General Chemistry
MMG 201: Fundamentals of Microbiology
NUR 301: Clinical Pathophysiology
PHM 350: Introductory Human Pharmacology
PSL 250 or 310: Introductory Physiology (Take this and anatomy first)
STT 200: Statistical Methods

The program has more information here: https://nursing.msu.edu/undergraduate/ac...admissions

The good news is that you now have time to get into and take your prereqs. Because admission to the MSU program is competitive, I would take these at your local CC for a grade. (If that CC is Washtenaw, I doubly recommend it. I really enjoyed my online classes there and the prof gave me a recommendation for a masters no questions asked.)

If this is the direction you want to go, I would move quickly. You probably still have time to get into summer classes, but likely only a few days. You should also get ready to rustle up some references and be prepared to write a personal statement when MSU ABSN applications open up again in the fall.
In Progress:
Georgia Tech OMSCS (Fall '24 onward!)

Completed:
* TESU BACS (coursework completed August '24, degree awarded September '24)
* C++ Programming Certificate, Washtenaw Community College (August '23)
* Bachelors of Arts, a Canadian brick & mortar university (2020)

For the prerequisites, you could also consider taking self-paced courses from Portage Learning or Univ of New England both of which seem to be accepted by a lot of nursing schools. Those courses are more expensive than Sophia, but would present the opportunity for course acceleration since they are self paced and you can start any time. There are other self-paced course providers like U of Idaho & BYU Indep Study that might work as well. Obviously, check with the nursing school to make sure these would transfer first.

Even cheaper hard science courses than Portage, University of New England, or University of North Dakota are. The classes are not self paced but they are way cheaper than above recommendations and can be done online.

Columbia University in NYC has a program

https://www.nursing.columbia.edu/academi...non-nurses

and they offer their prerequisites online

Course offerings are available three times per year with each session lasting ten weeks. The modules are set up independently and allow registration for courses to be taken concurrently. Upon completion, all grades are posted on an official transcript from Columbia University. The courses are fully accredited and transferable.
In alignment with our commitment to social justice and health equity, these courses are offered online and at a discounted tuition.

not cheap, but not crazy expensive either
and the fact that the prerequisites are offered 3x a year 10 weeks each session is really good

I haven't read through it all so there might be some cons

99.9% of nursing schools wont accept sophia or study for pre reqs and if they did you wouldn't be competitive.

I HAVE a BSN and MSN by the way..

Accelerated nursing programs are NOT cheap and are VERY competitive. Half-ass doing pre reqs is going to do you no favors.

A lot of nursing programs do not accept Portage. Some do accept UNE but not even close to most. Go to a CC or brick and mortar school for your pre reqs.

I would recommend that you look for affordable RN programs (start with CCs).  You're already showing a bachelor and a master degree, so you're likely well ahead for many (if not all) Gen Eds outside the science requirements. You said you don't mind on-campus, does this mean you're willing to relocate? Because of your existing degrees you'd likely find a RN program you could complete in 12/18 months; as you're certainly not starting from scratch.  Just make sure you thoroughly vet any RN program - for example, it was a few years ago now that there were all sorts of issues with some FL (private schools) programs in the news.

AA nursing programs are still 2+ years and very competitive because they are cheap. Some hospitals require a BSN 1-2 years after hire. OP is best served by an in-person accelerated MSN.

What OP doesn't understand is that you cant just Sophia your way out of the pre reqs.

Even accelerated, OPs plan will take 2+ years.

WGU could be a VERY good option. IF you live close enough.

For Michigan from here: https://www.wgu.edu/online-nursing-healt...ogram.html

"Districts with clinical opportunities:

Detroit
Grand Rapids
Clinical assignments are based upon a variety of factors such as state of residence, student program status, and student capacity at the time of clinical progression. Lab assignments are aligned with the location of the clinical district chosen.

Clinical opportunities are available within 60 miles of the district listed. Students can be placed at clinical partner sites throughout the 60 mile radius.

Students will travel to lab twice during the program. Michigan clinical district students will attend lab in Indiana.

Program start dates vary"

You could transfer in many gen eds already with completed bachelors and do the rest from straighterline. https://www.straighterline.com/colleges/...ofessions/

Decide for yourself which options suit you most by doing more research on the institutions you're interested in, I think the last poster is correct, if you're able to get into the WGU program using alternative credits or similar programs available with the institutions we recommend. I even mentioned WGU in post #5 if nursing isn't available, there are other health related programs that may fit your goals or needs. TESU has ABSN, but again, requirements needed must be butt-in-seat and not online...

You could, but OP should know that in the nursing sphere, the WGU nursing program (non online BSN) does not have a good reputation at all. We had several grads start who just were not prepared and it showed.
