New Wiki page: Certificates
#11
To be fair, $1250 isn't a terrible price for an undergrad certificate. Assuming you can bring in all the courses via alternate means, most undergrad certs at other schools are going to cost significantly more than the $1500-2000 total price tag. Probably still not worth it for many people, but not bad for someone who's just looking for a bit of an inexpensive resume boost.

For those who are working towards an Associates/Bachelors at TESU, the certs then are worth it, as you don't need to pay an additional residency waiver fee. Basically, you're getting the certs free en route to the Bachelors if you graduate them the same time. Those going for a second degree, this will work as well... I'm not sure what or why it would be a good option for those who are just looking at a certificate unless it complements their current credentials.

And for those who have a Bachelors, I would rather work on a Masters for example instead. That $1250 is just the residency waiver, there is a $100/cert fee as well, if someone goes for a couple certs, it's already 1 term at UMPI, or almost half the cost to a term at Walden. If they have tuition assistance, a Walden Masters can be very inexpensive at $2900 + $165 X 2 terms, that's a bit over $6 grand for a Masters, but get discount because of reimbursement!

Certificates that can be gotten entirely through alternate means: Accounting, CIS (maybe), Marketing (maybe), Operations Management, Organizational Leadership, Psychology. The others require one or more courses to be taken at TESU or another college/university.
Would there be any value in obtaining a Marketing Certificate in addition to a BSBA with Marketing??  I would not think so, but just checking to make sure.

Not really, no. But getting one of the others, especially if it only requires one or two additional courses, could be a good option.

Looking for clarification.  If a person already had a degree from TESU what is the process &/or problems that would be a concern?

I'll use myself as an example.  I have a BSBA-GM from 2018.  I decide I want to go into Accounting; even with the waiver fee it is an affordable option to add the Accounting Certificate.  Am I allowed to use my existing Core/AOS credits, and just obtain now what I'm missing? Is there a requirement to earn a certain number of new credits at a later date (now 4 years later)?

I'm pretty sure that the certificates don't have the same "new credit" requirement that degrees do. Yes, you can probably use your existing Accounting credits and then add whatever additional courses you need to get the Accounting certificate.

Maybe I'll be a guinea pig for this.  I would only need two courses for the Accounting Certificate, and I think I can talk by employer into paying the fee. I just posted to find out what my source for course options are under another thread. If I opt for this I'll be sure to report back here.

<blink blink> I just skimmed through the certificates, looks good... there are options for other courses but pretty complete. I noticed for the Accounting one, ACC-401 Advanced Accounting I is showing twice. You can change that to ACC-303 Cost Accounting from Study.com and/or Advanced Managerial Accounting also at Study.com
