New Study.com Grading Policy
#1
Hello! This is Ori from Study.com.

We wanted to let you know about an exciting new change we’ve recently implemented. In the past, course grades were calculated based on the final exam scores alone. In order to address the challenges this presented for some of our users and to give students credit for the additional course work they complete, we’ve worked with ACE over the past few months and adjusted our grading policy to address these concerns.

Under the new grading policy, 33% of all ACE-recommended course grades will be based on the lesson quizzes that you complete throughout the course! Please note that a minimum overall course grade of 70% is still required to pass.

We’re still in the process of updating all the course syllabi with the specific grading breakdown, but the new policy is currently in effect, and we wanted you to be among the first to know.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help. Thank you!

Yeesh, I'm glad I got my courses in before projects and papers started to be integrated. Bummer for new folks.
[edit: keep reading the thread for clarification, the original post mentioned projects but it has been removed. Study.com has clarified that there were already a handful of courses that had projects, but new ones are not being added.]

Are the quizzes unproctored, or will they work the same way as the exams? Can they still be retaken like before?

Hi jsd,

Thank you for your questions! The quizzes are unproctored and can be retaken, just like before. The only difference is that now, we are able to incorporate this into the overall course grade and award credit for the work that was done.

Also, I thought I'd mention that only a few of our courses (mainly our 300-level courses) require students to complete papers and additional assignments. The majority of our ACE-recommended courses do not require these additional assignments.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

Same here!

Good luck to all the new students. Even with these changes, Study.com is an awesome resource

Hrm, that part was edited out of the initial post apparently. The specific courses that would have projects wasn't indicated, but it indicated that some (not all) would.

Ugh! Papers and projects? That sounds awful! You know what would be nice, is a choice - those that want the exam only (V1) and those that want something more along the lines of SL (V2).

It's still a great resource at a great price, but I would definitely want to know in advance what the workload was going to be for each course.

Yes, I'd like to know for sure! I'm doing Study.com right now and still don't find it very user-friendly (as far as course expectations, grading, etc), especially compared to SL which I really enjoyed.

Maybe with new competition like Shmoop.com coming along, Study.com will get their act together and make it easier to be an informed student Wink
