Today I dropped out of this Georgetown University program. Out of the over 200 undergraduate credits I've completed in my life through CLEP, DESST, TECEP, EXCEL, FEMA, and others not including physical classes, they agreed to accept only 15 out of the available 64 as transfer credit. The reason? The other credits I've taken have been applied to other degree programs in the past. Um, yeah, that's why we take those credits- to use them. That's normal. Needless to say, I don't need a third undergraduate degree regardless, so I'm closing that chapter. Especially for the price- and I don't have time to take 17 more DSST exams in hopes they get accepted. Unfortunate.

I am so sorry of how this journey has ended. I was following your path to Georgetown. It is really disappointing to see somebody work his way, get admitted and that this policy frustrates everything. Anyway you have may respect to have open new ground and prove that you can get admitted and go to Georgetown with distance education.
Keep going strong! and please don't let this be anything else than a little stone on your path.

I think they just want more money. I don't think it makes sense to not be able to reuse credits from prior degrees. Also, I don't feel the credit calculation was correct. Several physical courses I took at the schools didn't apply to the degree I was studying directly and weren't applied to degree requirements. I think the person evaluating my transcripts forgot that, despite me showing them evidence months ago. That's another thing, because I decided to delay and start next summer after my Harvard terms, I was told I'd have to wait longer for an evaluation, 2 months later, yesterday, I got the email saying they'd only apply 15 credits toward the 64 transferrable. The communication was not the best for my taste, and when I did look through the classes and signing up, I felt the options were a bit lacking and you couldn't get every course you wanted.
Kab, I'm very sorry to sadden you with this news and the lack of progress. I hope that I can deliver happier news in the future if and when I revisit this program or another. However, I'm happy to let potential students know about this issue. They need to know.

I'm not sure why anyone would do this degree when they already have a degree - especially considering they don't bring you in as a 2nd degree policy and accept everything except the major/UL courses. Most 2nd degrees are around 30cr, not 56cr.

There are a variety of reasons why. Some people want academic fresh starts. Some people have near ivy league masters degrees but unimpressive undergraduate school records that employers and schools question, other people want the challenge. You're right. Most second degrees request 30 credits to 45 credits institutional in-residence credit. Unfortunate all around.

Canadian universities are like this, they only accept the first two years and you do the final two years as a 2+2 program, I detest that you can't just do the major at the university, they force it so you have up to 60+ credits for transfer and at the minimum, do the other half at the institution you intend to graduate from. Some colleges/universities here in the US also are like that, an example is the NYU SPS allows up to 64 transfer credits to their 128 credit BA/BS due to residency requirements and they do not allow second degrees at the Univ in other words, their Univ doesn't admit students who already have a previous Bachelors (unless it's in just two specific degree programs).
People have various reasons for getting a second/third bachelors degree even though they have a first or second masters, maybe even a doctorate. Some intend to use tuition assistance/reimbursement to get into similar fields they've got interest in but don't want to leave their current career, it's like to test the waters before you actually jump ship to the other field of interest. Prospective students will get swayed in all directions, it really depends on what they're looking at and need/want, some may be looking into changing fields completely. Here's an example, some will recommend another (third) bachelors, for me I recommended the Masters Applied Computer Science instead: https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...eer-Change

It is a pity that Georgetown does not recognize prior learning experiences of other bachelor-level degree programs or tests while many colleges are happy with that.
By the way, I am also considering this program but am concerned that employers or graduate schools may treat a liberal art degree differently, as inferior to a regular BA or BSc degree in that you actually have no major.

1) A Canadian university offering a 2+2 is not a 2nd bachelor's program, it's the same as we offer here for transferring students going for their first bachelor's.
2) The NYU SPS degree is also not a 2nd bachelor's program - and it specifically doesn't allow for one - because it's similar to the BOG AAS in that they are trying to help people get their first bachelor's degree.

Correct, but my point wasn't that, as I mentioned in my post above, it's "like" which means for second degree seekers, a Canadian university will only accept the first two years, the final two years still need to be completed at the final Canadian institution, no if/and/or buts about it. So, again for the NYU SPS comment, I stand with what I just mentioned previously as well...
