New ASU ULC: CIS 308: Advanced Excel in Business
#11
Oh, those sound cool! I emailed them today to ask about the new PSY-101 Into Psych course. It's debuting in October, but the upcoming date vanished from the website + portal. Turns out, they're running a limited enrollment initially and it's already full. That's a bummer, I wanted to take it because of an internship I just started.
TESU Class of 2024 BSBA-CIS+GM, BSIT, ASNSM-CS+Math, AAS-GEN
Earned credits from Sophia, SDC, ASU ULC, TEEX, Microsoft, Strayer, TESU, Saylor, DSST, CLEP, CompTIA, StraighterLine, and others since starting in April 2020

That would be awesome. I missed their last deal. I would love to take some of the ASU courses but don't want to shell out $400 a pop.

Per HS4CC, ASU ULC will be launching several new courses in 2022. Enrollment will be limited to ~1000 students, so act quickly. They've opened up registration for PSY-101 in January.

Under the "Add Courses" tab on your ASU ULC account I see 2 new classes have been added:

CIS 194 Technical Support Fundamentals 1 credit description

SST 220 Introduction to Social Transformation 3 credits description

It appears like CIS 194 will be self-paced when it's launched in January 2022. Keep in mind that it's only 1 credit which would be very expensive if they charge the full $425 to take it. In its description, it states it will be the first in a series for a new certificate program so perhaps they will launch more on the ULC platform.

Interestingly, at the moment, CIS194 lists its cost as $25 + $0, which would of course be an amazing price. May be a fluke since the page was just added today, but it is different than all their other classes being only 1 credit and seemingly targeted more at a vocational cert program rather than academically focused courses for degree-seeking students. Will keep monitoring for developments.

Interesting: It appears that this course will be part of a new program partnering with the Google IT Support Professional cert. The final price is stated as $2150(significantly more than doing it through Coursera) but it appears the certificate will be a total of 15 RA credits and include some additional courses that aren't normally part of the Coursera program. Also appears that some will be UL. Looks like the first course is free/$25 and the rest are full price.

Quote:About the partnership

Learn the skills you need for an introductory-level job in IT support.
In this online program, you'll work through six ASU Universal Learner Courses that leverage the Google IT Support Certificate, as well as supplemental industry material that is aimed at giving you the best preparation possible to begin a career in Information Technology.
Upon completion, you'll receive a co-branded professional certificate from ASU and Google, as well as 15 credit hours that you can apply towards a bachelor's degree.

Quote:Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from the Google IT on Coursera?

Great question. You only have to pay $25 to start. If you don’t succeed, you don’t pay anything more. The curriculum is also paired with ASU material to ensure it meets university standards. These courses will count as ASU credits and stack directly into degree programs.

How much does it cost?

The total cost for the program is $2150

Do I have to take the courses in a specific order?

Yes, the courses are designed to build upon each other.

Will Google hire me after I get this certificate?

There is no guaranteed placement by completing this program, but it is a strong way to demonstrate your knowledge to current and future employers.

What does the certificate look like?

This certificate will be emailed to you once you complete the program. It will have the Google logo, ASU logo, and your name on it.

When is this available?

Courses start January 2022.

Is it self-paced?

Yes, these courses are self-paced. Learners must complete the course within one year of starting the course.

Quote:Like your grade? Pay just $400 to add this to your ASU College Transcript. The first course, 'technical support fundamentals,' has the fee waived!

So it may be a way to leverage the program for the 1 free($25) RA credit and also get some UL courses for $425.

FYI - According to my contact at ASU the courses will need to be completed sequentially, each one unlocking the next so you can add the course and take it. The 2nd course is 2cr, the rest are 3cr including the 2 UL courses. As it stands right now, it seems you cannot jump directly to the 2 upper-level courses. Only the first one is $25, the rest are as usual $25+$400 each.
