The Invisible Heart: An Economic Romance by Russell Roberts
This book isn't about Liberalism vs. Conservatism, but reading it is truly an eye-opening economic experience!

Take a look at the news, any news, even your conservative TV and look at Prez Obama's approval rating. Look who's arrived at dinner. Who's calling the shot's. You just made me vomit. This obama guy was elected by the MSM, sound bites, and talking points. The same folks who just voted for him are already bored, and on to something else! Oh, and most are back to doing nothing. So while the numbers shift beneath him, Obama hits the comedy circuit and the campaign trail. But sooner or later, he'll need to come back to his problems, because it's his crisis now.

Learflyer, sorry we have to meet under these circumstances. First off, don't tell me Obama and company are ruining your family. That's crap. The Republican administration has ruined this country, at least those who aren't wealthy. Sounds personal now. To repeat myself again, when it's personal, the anger comes out. Till then, nobody could give a crap about those suffering in the middle class or poverty. I don't need your lecture, you, like many are directing your anger in the wrong direction. And I don't mean me. I still can't believe how everyone is focused on Obama and Frank, and not Bush, Cheney and that screw-up Rumsfeld. How are you people so clueless????? As for voting, you have NO CLUE how I vote. I can tell you this. I voted Obama for Prez and Republican for everyone in NJ that was running, because I am sick of the democratic machine and crooked politics happening in our state. We have the highest property taxes in the country, and we have mostly the democrats to blame for that. Back to the other issue. This is exactly why there will be trouble in this country. Because there are many of you (don't worry Farmerboy, I'm not including you, you already have your neat definitions of everything so I won't go there w/you) dyed in the wool Republicans who can't see past the frickin nose on your faces. What news do you watch, do you watch TV or listen to the radio???? Wake up! Obama just gets in and so he is responsible for this mess? You must be about $$$$$. Screw everyone else, right? So the war in Iraq is really about what? I mean, if were all out for ourselves, why are young people dying over there? I saw this happening w/banking long ago when my wife worked in the industry, how the hell did I see it and the experts didn't? THEY DID, THAT'S JUST IT. It was about Greed, plain and simple. How did this country ever allow bank consolidation in the first place. When the small banks were bought out by the larger ones, numerous articles were written about the possible scenarios, and this was one of them. Yet the gov't allowed it, not Republicans, both parties. While this issue is much deeper than the monopolization of the banking industry, it is a clear signal, if you ask me, that our gov't is clueless or unethical or C, both A & B. I pick C. Now, I'm well aware that I am about the only one on this site that feels this way or actually speaks my mind. Obviously, there are many out there who feel otherwise. So be it, I'm talking till Steve pulls the plug. Concerning the racist remark, I don't believe I ever stated that if you didn't vote for Obama, you must be racist. Matter of fact, I'm sure of it. I can say this for certain though, in many of my private discussions with many whites, my family included, many said they would never vote for a black president, especially because he was Muslim (Muslim????) and some even stated he possibly could have ties w/various questionable extremists groups. Now you all out there can say WOW, we never heard that! MY OH MY! Tisk, tisk. But I'm just keepin it real as they say. I am not claiming anyone on here is racist BUT, I think to myself differently. So, the weather is great and I'm going out to get some good ole fresh air, it's getting a little stale in here. Little advice, your directing your anger in the wrong area if you ask me. The poor and middle class damn them, how did they get us into this mess, right? And if you believe it's the Democrats fault only, you have serious issues. The wealthy have been getting a free ride, hopefully we're on to them finally. They live in protected communities, away from the common citizen, man, I don't even think they realize a war is going on and people are dying. They are pulling the end around and you are falling for it. It's mazes and mirrors. PFMagic. GO SIENA!!!!!!!!!!

First of all, paragraphs are your friend. Secondly, how do you explain this quote:
"Obama will call for increased oversight of 'executive pay at all banks, Wall Street firms and possibly other companies' as part of sweeping plan to 'overhaul financial regulation." Are you ready for that to happen? I bet you are one of the people who are "outraged" by the bonuses that the AIG folks EARNED!!!!!!!! How was your life after 9/11? Pretty good I bet! Nice stock market (remember what the dow was?). Prosperity, and plenty of economic stimulation. I bet you were gainfully employed as well. GWB kept us safe after 9/11.

Learflyer, I'm glad you decided to put the oxygen on, I thought you were starting to black out. I have to write long because many of you are short on thought. I figure, eventually something will stick. OK, I was wrong. As for 9/11, yeah, my life was real good. I was stationed in Norfolk, VA. waiting in long lines to get on base, to get on the pier and then to get on the ship. We had a 3 tier security blanket and anyone on this website stationed there at the time knows how fun it was. I was Coxswain (boat driver for you) of our security boat for the ship, 6 on, 6 off for awhile + we would have other duties at times. Yeah, my life was real good. A 40 min or so drive to the ship became at least 1 hr and 30 mins and more at times. As for the stock market, yeah, I was in when it was good, after it was bad and before it was good again before it was horrendous, or something like that. Who do I thank for that? I actually moved money from Dodge & Cox just before the crash because I thought I saw it coming and so did my father-in-law. How did no one else. But I didn't take it all out so I'm getting hammered like everyone. As for GWB, when I saw that comment, I actually thought you were goading me because no one could be THAT illiterate, could they? And the lightbulb went on and I thought, maybe they are. So I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt realizing that you aren't goading me, you really are that illiterate. Where does that leave us???? Well heck, I don't know what to make of it. I actually feel kinda sorry for you. Is your 401k protected? Watch your back because you are a mark. I was starting to think you were the consigliore of this thread and ruddigore was Vinny Ga-Ga but maybe I was wrong. Regardless, here's the skinny on GWB. WORST PRESIDENT EVER! As for the bonuses, and here's the funny.........I thought everyone was ticked off at them, well w/the exception of those individuals and the circle of friends and family. And remember, concerning the circle, your either in or your out! Most of us are out, but we paid the cover, know what I mean (wink) :} Now, this is a lot for you to comprehend, it works better if you open your eyes when you open your ears. Did anyone ever teach you that? We can all rejoice ( I use that term loosely) in knowing Dubya is gone. Now, we just have to pick up the pieces to the puzzle and figure out where they go. As for the money, after all, it's always about the money, here's my plan. If your poor, hold on to what you got. If your middle class, dependent on what state you live in, you get to keep a good portion of what you've got. If your in the wealthy range, I've got good news for you too. Your going to help out your fellow man/woman and you'll feel good about it. You'll still get to waste natural resources like before, you just won't have as much $$$$ as you did before. This is the direction we need to move in. Trust me, this is a good thing. Now, don't you feel a little bit better?

He is definitly in the bottom half of my list but he beats Carter, LBJ, JFK, Nixon, Wilson, Hoover, Ford, Clinton, and FDR by miles. I agree with just about everything you said in your first "exposition". I just have a completely different way to fix the problems . |
