My Initial Plan
#1
This forum has helped me get a plan together to complete my degree, which I frankly thought I was not going to do after all this time. But seeing the results from many on here, as well as some of my former co-workers who have obtained advanced degrees via a different path as well, I am inspired and so here I am!

I put this initial plan together after researching this site, reddit and various college programs.

Location: Metro Detroit, Michigan

Age: 60

Degree sought: Not yet determined. Possibly UMPI’s YourPace Business Management and Leadership, B.A. However, I am still exploring the other available options. It appears that this might be the most expeditious route by taking Sophia courses before enrollment.

Current Regional Accredited Credits:

Henry Ford College (Listed below are the UMPI course #’s that correspond with the Henry Ford College courses that I previously completed, after reviewing Mainestreet’s website).
ENG 101
PSY 100
PSY 100
SOC 100
MAT 1XX
BIO 1XX
PSY 1XX
ANT 100

Current ACE, CLEP, or NCCRS Credits: None

Any certifications or military experience?: Former law enforcement officer.

Budget: Unlimited, but looking to be economically efficient in this endeavor.

Commitments: Part-time work

Dedicated time to study: 2-5 hours a day, five days a week or more. I expect to dedicate at least 20-30 hours a week. There will be a few weeks mixed in where I would have less time available due to work/travel commitments.

Timeline: One year to 1.5 years.

Tuition assistance/reimbursement: None

Current Plan: To complete the GEC course work requirements via Sophia then move on to the required coursework for the yet to be determined degree.

GEC Courses Planned via Sophia
Workplace Writing II (started 1/6/25)
Organizational Communication
College Composition II
Introduction to Ethics
US History I
Spanish I
American Government
Art 103 or Photography (Art 251)
Art History II

Preferences: I prefer to test out as opposed to having many assignments and assessments.

Thanks in advance for any input/feedback.
