My Experience at the Harvard Extension School Information Session
#21
Thank you for your post! I enjoyed reading it. I am very interested in the ALM in Management through HES and would love to go to an information session as well. However life is busy and balancing out the time and resources to make the trip is tough right now.

I was wondering if you heard anything about the on-campus requirements for those who live out of state? I saw that you mentioned weekend sessions...how often are these sessions. You also mentioned 3 week summer sessions.

I live in NC and moving to MA is out of the question. Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hey, I've been looking into an ALM as well, so I can help with some of this. Oddly, I'm also from NC. The on-campus requirements are the same if you live out of state. You have to take four courses on-campus. Some of the courses have "intensive weekend" components that meet the on-campus requirements. You'll live stream the entire course and then meet on campus for one weekend during the semester. You will need to complete four of these courses to meet the requirement. The availability for these courses makes it a little difficult to get all four courses, but its certainly doable. I would look at using some of your elective courses to meet this requirement. Check out the courses here https://www.extension.harvard.edu/course...og/courses  Under the "Format" filter, select "online w/ required on-campus weekend" to find the courses that would apply.

One other thing to note is that ALM in Management just added a thesis component, which complicates things. I've heard that the thesis component in other programs is filled with unwarranted delays and a shortage of thesis advisors. The ALM in Finance might be a better option. You could pair that with an MBA or MSML from WGU if you really wanted to check the "management" box. Also, look into working in a Graduate Certificate into your ALM. You should be able to work in at least one grad certificate just by using your elective appropriately.
