* I read that it requires courses transferred in for any interdisciplinary degrees must be from a "REGIONALLY accredited" program, so likely foreign coursework such as a UK certificate or VUL DHA is not eligible.

Emailed them a week ago. Nothing as of yet.

actually UK OTHM/QUALIFI diplomas will be evaluated as Regionally Accredited by WES

The real issue is whether or not Morgan State accepts one without an official "ABD Status." Having doctoral credits may not matter if you don't hold an All But Dissertation status! Has anyone inquired?

So I admittedly have not ever done a doctoral program, so I do not know the details like those of you who have...

But Morgan requires 36 hours of coursework...

"Completion of the Ph.D. program requires a student to have an MS degree and complete an additional 36 credit hours beyond the MS degree."

But they -Morgan- provide those classes. They could be saying "you only need 36 hours at Morgan"... but that is NOT what they are saying.

"Thirty-six (36) credit hours, total, are required for completion of the doctoral degree programs for all students who hold MS degrees.".

36 ... TOTAL.

The other doctorate they offer (online) is an Ed.D. in Community College Admin. It is 63-65 hours.

So, if by their definition you only need 36 hours post MS/MA...for the interdisciplinary programs what is the idea with needing "ABD" .

I feel like I am missing something here.

Can some of you with PhD experience please educate me ?

Generally speaking (with differences coming from which degree and institution you're going to ultimately finish)... When you get to the doctorate level, generally, it's going to be at least 60+ credits post Masters. That's the reason they require you to have an ABD status, as that means you've got at least X amount of credits at the doctorate level already, post masters. You're just finishing the final requirements from them, which is the 36 credits. I see nothing wrong, as other institutions do the same thing or similar process for ABD completion programs.

Nothing wrong with your reasoning, however they explicitly state:

"Completion of the Ph.D. program requires a student to have an MS degree and complete an additional 36 credit hours beyond the MS degree."

So if it is ABD plus 36 at Morgan why do they not phrase it in that way?

The way I interpret their website, we are looking at a professional doctorate that is only 36 hours long... which is very short, but on par with something like a DNP for nurses.

They do phrase it that way, review the entire paragraph above the additional 36 credits hours beyond the MS degree... Read the minimum requirements of needing an ABD. Everyone interpret things differently, I read it as a 1+1 program, the only way to be absolutely sure is to email them or get in contact with them, twice... Once is to make sure with the admin/admissions, the second time is to make sure with someone higher up to re-confirm.

So finally i heard back from the Phone # 4438852158 from Laquetta (normal phone or email response is 3 business days )
The good News is that deadline is only 60 days away for the Fall 2025 start. Its only once a year for the PhD and not sure about others.
They want 2 references (1 academic and 1 professional or both can be academic but can't be both professional).
They want the transcripts and if you can work with Laquetta, she will review the unofficial transcripts first tell that if you need to waste $50 application fee or not. They are pretty good in responding in 24 hours after receiving the basic review of unofficial transcripts for you to apply.
Here is what they ask
Resume/CV
Written Summary of Academic History  (Please upload a written summary of your academic history. Explain your interruption in your academic career and motivation for returning. You may upload up to 5 documents.)
- Extra Documentation (Documentation to support application as needed.)

In lump sum, if you have too many colleges and their transcripts, have your budget of $100 to $120 because parchment and national clearing house charge different fees for different transcripts.

I hope this helps.
Since i applied while i am doing another master with UMPI MAOL because if i admitted in PhD it will start till August 2025.
Based on what i got and my early review of unofficial transcripts i have to do 18 credits with $350 and plus $500 other fees.

Thanks

Did they say anything about remote work or DBA status and what not?

I heard back from them:

“Thank you for your email. This program is 100% remote. We also offer admissions to those who have completed 100% of their coursework but still need to complete their dissertation.”
