Military benefits for non-military

Just came across something really interesting that I wanted to share with the group. I'm a member of the Civil Air Patrol and apparently we get military benefits with American Sentinel University. I haven't done much digging into this yet but it looks like CAP members can get military rates plus free evaluations. Maybe some other stuff too.

If anybody knows any more about CAP and American Sentinel I'd love to hear about it. For those of you who don't know, CAP is the civilian auxiliary of the US Air Force. We do most of the inland search and rescue work for the Air Force as well as other missions such as disaster relief. It is a volunteer organization open to any body who is a citizen or permanent resident. There is even a cadet section. You don't need to be a pilot or even have any interest in flying, there are plenty of ground based roles such as search and rescue ground teams, radio operators, safety, medical, legal etc etc.

If you've been thinking about volunteering some time CAP might be something to think about especially if you looking for reduced rate education.

It is just that you said because it is a smaller piece of the Airforce. The AF funds certain parts of CAP to enhance young boys to fly so that eventually they might get more recruits out of it. Its a great program to be honest and keeps kids busy. It follows ranks if im not mistaken also. Anyway yes the insurance is a just a little perk.

You're right it is "quasi-military". We wear uniforms - some Air Force style and some civilian style - and use military ranks but we are definitely civilian - I'm not even a citizen but I am a 2nd Lt in the Civil Air Patrol. I believe we are entirely funded by the AF - we have the world's largest fleet of single-engined piston aircraft. We do fly the cadets which is a great experience for all involved but SAR and disaster relief are our main missions.

But the perk I was talking about is not insurance but education so it could be a HUGE perk. Looks like there's about a 40% discount for military. Like I said I haven't checked into any of the details yet but it could be worth several thousand dollars. For instance, they're quoting a masters for $4500 - $9000 with military rates compared to US$7,200-$14,400 for an MBA at civilian rates.
