Math 107 & Math 101
#1
Hi,

Will TESU accept Math 101: College Algebra for the MAT-119 Quantitative Business Analysis instead of the Math 107:Quantitative Literacy? And which of the two classes listed on Study.com (Mat 101, Math 107) would be EASIER if both will fill the MAT-119 credit? Both Mat 101 and Mat 107 on study.com count as ACE credits. I'm leaning toward taking College Algebra since it will transfer to other areas easier if I decide to do something different later is why I ask also. Also, TESU requests College Algebra and Statistics (taking Statistics later) anyway.

Thanks

I think TESU accepts College Algebra for the Quant. Literacy requirement. I completed MAT-121, which is College Algebra, and that is on my academic eval.

Yes, College Algebra works for the Quant Lit requirement in pretty much every degree plan. Here are all the published courses (or their equivalencies via transfer) that will meet the Quantitative Literacy requirement at TESU.
  • DSI-200: Analyze This!
  • HPS-200: Statistics for the Health Professions
  • MAT-105: Applied Liberal Arts Mathematics
  • MAT-115: Intermediate Algebra
  • MAT-119: Quantitative Business Analysis
  • MAT-121: College Algebra
  • MAT-129: Precalculus
  • MAT-231: Calculus I
  • MAT-232: Calculus II
  • MAT-270: Discrete Mathematics
  • MAT-301: History of Mathematics
  • MAT-321: Linear Algebra
  • MAT-331: Calculus III
  • MAT-332: Calculus IV
  • MAT-351: Mathematical Modeling
  • MAT-361: College Geometry
  • MAT-401: Mathematical Logic
  • STA-201: Principles of Statistics
That said, some degrees have more specific requirements. For example, a BSBA degree requires the following:
  • College Algebra or Quantitative Business Analysis to meet the Quantitative Literacy requirement within the Intellectual and Practical Skills section of General Education requirements; and
  • Statistics within the Mathematics section of General Education requirements.

Here's what you can take from Study.com for your degree (I'm assuming it's a BSBA):

QUANTITATIVE LITERACY REQUIREMENT FOR BSBA
MAT 105: Precalculus Algebra (comes in as MAT-121)
OR
MAT 107: Quantitative Literacy (comes in as MAT-119)

AND

STATISTICS REQUIREMENT FOR BSBA
STAT 101: Principles of Statistics (comes in as STA-201)

MAT 101: College Algebra comes in as MAT-115, which is Intermediate Algebra, and won't work for the BSBA (although you can use it in the GE Electives).

If I were you, I would do the MAT 101 and MAT 102 pretests, and then do MAT 105 which should then have some of it completed (MAT 105 doesn't have a pretest).

Thanks dfrecore. Will ALEKS College Algebra transfer in the Quantitative Literacy section for BSBA in Gen. Mgmt or still transfer in as Mat-115?

Or do I specifically have to take Mat-105 or Mat-107? If so, which is least difficult for a non math person?

Any other route less challenging to fulfill the quantitative literacy for BSBA than study.com? Thanks

You'll find that the Study.com courses are probably the least challenging math courses as they tend to focus more on theory than hardcore math and repetitive calculations. At least that is what I have read from feedback from others on the forum; I have not personally taken any of the SDC math courses since I took all my math courses via ALEKS.

That said, if you want to actually learn math you may want to look at alternative providers like Straighterline or ALEKS. That and/or go through the Khan Academy videos thoroughly and do a lot of extra practice on your own to make sure you master the material.
