Masters With What School?

Anyone have any updated info on Amberton's MS in Human Relations and Business AND/OR on their MS in Professional Development. I am debating those two as possible fast Masters. My other option was WGU MSML. I may go back and get an MBA in the future but for now, just looking for a quick and easy masters to check a box.

I see you took my advice on posting a new Amberton thread   - I'm sharing what I posted again to share with not only you but other readers of this thread who may not have seen it on the other....I started at WGU for their MS ITM, then Eastern for Data Science - both good (for other people) they just weren't what I was looking for or needed; but a master degree was a 'must have' for me.  The Amberton MA Professional Development allowed me not to waste the credits I had earned from those schools I listed, and I was able to take whatever courses they offered that interested me to finish - they do have 2 required graduate courses, other than that whatever you want works (it could equate your master version of your BLS).  I transferred in the 12 credits from my previous graduate school(s), but you can speed it up and save money by choosing to take some VESi courses to fill up those 12 transfer credits.  To date the best post on this degree remains that one I learned about the program from in the first place, that is the one by kevinmane (information is still relevant although costs are slightly higher now, but not by much) - https://www.degreeforum.net/mybb/Thread-...-graduated - Amberton has been more popular here as of late, and they do have some other course flexible business degree options as well. If you do want more information on Amberton I would suggest a new thread on just them to get the most feedback possible.

I will add that if you start out in one of their other degree programs and you don't feel it is the right one it is good to know that none of the  courses you take with them are ever 'wasted or lost', because they all work in the MA Professional Development - as everything works.  I had originally thought I would go for their MBA-PM when I first transferred to them (only two of the four courses I had already taken would have fit, leaving me two 'lost'), but in the end all I really needed professionally was a master (any master). Also, I already have a business admin bachelor and I had already done all the 'studying' I would ever need to obtain the PMP certification.  I loved that I could study whatever subject that interested me, or I felt would best help me gain new skills/knowledge for my career - I created my own path and walked it through to completion.

I'm going to be heading into my final session at Amberton for my MBA. I started in March in the MS Agile Project Management program but switched to the MBA in Strategic Leadership because it doesn't pigeon hole me into pm. I did transfer in 6 credits from another grad program so that helped meet my 36 credits in 3 sessions. I'm also taking 4 classes in the fall which I needed permission from the Dean to do as you're limited to 3 classes. I'll be sticking around to complete the MA in Prof Dev. I will only need 8 classes for this degree because I already will have earned an Amberton grad degree. I'm hoping the Dean will allow me to continue taking 4 classes instead of 3 so I can finish that degree in 2 sessions as well.

If you do take VESI courses keep in mind that Amberton only accepts 3 credit courses as transfers.

I was really considering WGU and had applied. I was going to do the MSML and MBA, but really dislike Examity and have had issues with it elsewhere. No proctoring at Amberton, but there are also few exams. Lots of writing. I'm very happy I went with Amberton over WGU. No, it's not as fast, but I also feel like I'm getting much more out of my studies. I am also enjoying 10 week sessions followed by a 2-3 week break. It's really nice having those breaks and letting your brain have a rest. I also picked Amberton because they have a campus so I'm not earning an online only degree. WGU is online only and some people still have goofy ideas about online degrees.

Do you have any questions about Amberton or the degrees you're looking at?

I would say yes there's more writing than WGU. Remember this is not a CBE program so you won't have 1 or 2 papers. You have assignments due almost every week. It depends on the course and professor what type of work the assignments are. Some are cited discussions with responses and some are 3-5 or 5-8 or 10-15 page papers. Some are PowerPoint presentations. Some are reviews of various articles. Some are book critiques. It really does vary. 

I think it depends on what you want the degrees for. If you want to work in human resources, training, or counseling then the Human Relations degree is the way to go. Yeah the ultimate end goal is a few HR positions I been eyeing. That's long term. Short term goal is a higher up benefits management position. I received my promo for the associate, will receive one for a bachelor's then one for the masters. So the plan was to get the easiest/fastest Bach and masters. That's why I'm doing the BLS with UMPI. Just was trying to find a quick masters. Everyone kept saying WGU MSML is the way to go but then I seen amberton Prof Dev and it seems like a Masters BLS.

So are the certificates extra classes? Or the same classes I'm already taking?

The certificates can be completed based on the courses you select to complete your degree. So if you choose to complete the MA in Prof Dev you basically have 10 courses that you choose. You take whatever you want that's offered in the grad school. You can complete the Human Resources Management certificate by taking HRT6555, HRT6560, HRT6575, and MGT6177. Those 4 classes count in the 10 courses for the MA in Prof Dev. There are 12 total courses including ethics and grad writing.

It depends, if you can complete the WGU MSML in 1 term at roughly $4K and in 6 months, that would be a great choice. If you're not in a rush, have a year to spend on the course (I think the Amberton program may take longer) and can fork out about twice the cost, then Amberton is another good choice especially if work is paying for half or more of the costs...

So are the certificates extra classes? Or the same classes I'm already taking?

They can be included in the classes you're already taking. So if you went for the MA Professional Development you could do the human resource management certificate (or any of their graduate certificates)- https://www.amberton.edu/programs-and-co...ement.html.  You would basically end up with a MA Professional Development with a 'concentration' in HR Management and require no extra courses. You would get the degree and the certificate all for the same amount of total courses.
