Keep in mind that I took my time because it was open book. I also didn't spend the 8 hours all at once. I did that over 3 days. I know other people didn't spend anywhere near as long on it as I did. That was 1 class. That was the only class I've had an exam so far.

That's a good point. It's not 100% flexible, more like 95%. WGU students must log in and complete minimal activity every so often. This means they can't take a three-month vacation and never think about school, but it can be as simple as clicking through a few web pages, not any actual work. These threads have some more info:
