Looking for self-paced options...
#1
Does anyone know of any other resources like Straighterline & ALEKS? I want to accomplish as much of my liberal studies classes as I can in that type of online, unproctored, self-paced format, but these 2 sites are limiting in the course selection.... anyone?

Thanks,
Jimbo

Hello.

I don't know about self-paced online, but if you are looking for distance/correspondence courses, here are a few.

Penn Foster College

http://www.pennfostercollege.edu/college-catalog.html

Arkansas State University

http://www2.astate.edu/dotAsset/125096.pdf

Ohio University

http://www.lifelong.ohio.edu/e-learning/online.htm

The last two are regionally accredited, but PFC is accredited by DETC. So you may have to get the courses you finish put on an ACE trancript first. I would also check on ACENET.EDU to confirm whether or not the course(s) you plan to take are ACE recommended.

I'm sure others on the forum can give you more colleges that offer self-paced programs. These are just the ones I know of right now.

If you need anything else, just let me know.

I believe LSU has a bunch of courses that are pretty much self-paced. I think you have 6-9 months to get through the courses. They require a proctor for the tests, though.
Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Wile E. Coyote, genius. I am not selling anything nor am I working my way through college, so let's get down to basics: you are a rabbit and I am going to eat you for supper. Now don't try to get away, I am more muscular, more cunning, faster and larger than you are, and I am a genius, while you could hardly pass the entrance examinations to kindergarten, so I'll give you the customary two minutes to say your prayers.

Bachelor of Science in PsychoRabbitology degree
Master of Education with a specialty in Rabbit-specific destructive munitions (or eLearning & Technology, I forget which)
Doctor of Philosophy in Wile E. Leadership with an area of specialty in Acme Mind Expansion - 2017 Hopefully

Depending an what you're looking for:

Colorado State University-Pueblo > Schedule of Courses

More costly than LSU, but not by a lot, and no proctors in any course I have shopped.

Penn Foster requires proctors.

I took several classes via at BYU, via Excelsior that had a great format. 14 Speedback assignments and then a proctored exam. The speedback assignments are open book multiple choice. You work at your own pace.

But they dont allow you to finish within anytime period they limit how much you may hand in weekly.

Columbia Southern University (DETC accredited) can be self-paced if you do not use financial aid. 10 week courses, start anytime, and you are permitted to finish in as little as three weeks. Otherwise, if you use FA, they are always fixed 8 week terms. Hope this helps...
