But they dont allow you to finish within anytime period they limit how much you may hand in weekly.

Doesn't mean you can't get everything done early and just shoot off the assignments 3-5 (whatever the limit per week is) at a time.. :p

Is there anything that can happen quicker than 5-10 weeks? I finished my Straighterline classes in less than a week and got spoiled. I finished 2 Penn Foster classes, Systems Analysis and Systems Design in 1 day but am still waiting for them to mail the proctored exam so that I can take it and finalize the class.

Is there anything that does not have a minimum completion time?

BYU (Brigham Young University) is self-paced. It's not too expensive (relative term) about $400- for 3 credit hours, plus books. Regionally accredited, too--very easy to transfer those credits nationawide, as all 6 regional associations accept one another's credits (pretty much).

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum and have been doing some searching for this so if I missed it I apologize.

I have done pretty well professionally without the benefit of a degree. I only have a few hours (6 to be exact) at the local community college.

Penn Foster offers a Human Resources certificate that has most of the courses listed on the Ace recommended list I checked this evening. Those courses in the program are:
BUS110 Principles of Management
HRM201 Human Resource Management
HRM210 Compensation Management
ENG010 Business English
HRM355 Training Concepts
HRM320 Employee Benefits
HRM350 Labor Relations

I called and spoke to an advisor at Penn Foster who told me these courses are only CEU's and would not transfer as college credit. When I asked him about being on the Ace list he didn't know what I was talking about...just insisted these would never be college credits.

However, if they appear on the list of recommended classes and of course if the particular RA college accepts the Ace credits...then could they still not be used for college credit?

I want to take this certificate to enhance my knowledge of that subject due to my job responsibilities and if it happens to count toward degree credits then to me it's a no-brainer to take this course for such a low price. I may take it anyway even if they don't count.

Can anyone give me some input on whether or not I would be able to ever use these for credit, even if for electives? Thanks so much! I've found a lot of great info on this forum...just discovered you guys this past weekend!

Warning...a little rant coming. Most if not all of the people at PF no little about how ACE credit works, even though they have the most ACE approved courses. Furthermore most of them could care less. The big three will likely take any and all ACE approved credits from PF.

These are NOT "ACE" credit courses, the advisor is correct I I got my facts right. The certificate courses are a modified version of the standard course and also do not have proctored exams. They are not eligible I think for credit/transfer into degree programs from PFC either if I recall.

Thanks for the replies. BrandeX, here is the text directly from the PF website:

"The course credits earned with this program are transferable to an Associate of Science Degree in Human Resources Management at Penn Foster College."

So the courses do transfer to their Associate degree program, at least. The website does refer to them as CEU's and there is no proctored exam according to the person I spoke with.

My goal is to eventually get an RA degree and I would love it if these transfered.

There are some certificates out there from other RA schools that I could take instead including in the NC Community College System. While they would cost more and take longer to complete (on a semester basis instead of self-paced) I'd rather do that if they will transfer and these will not.

The problem with PF is that most of the employees including the VP of Academic Affairs have no idea how ACE works. They also sometimes arbitrarily decide what does/doesn't qualify. My son took a newer 3 credit Systems Analysis course that PF submitted as their older ACE approved 2 credit course.

I would contact Mary Ann (800-233-0259) when she gets back from vacation and explain that you need to verify from the person who actually approves the course submitting to ACE as to whether those courses will actually be submitted to ACE when you finish. I would also email ACE and ask if they will approve courses from PF that you have passed if you provide the transcript directly to them. credit@ace.nche.edu

Geezer, I really appreciate your assistance. I agree the best answer is "straight from the horse's mouth" so-to-speak. I will do as you suggest and once I get some clarification I will post here just in case someone else does a search and finds the info beneficial. Many thanks!
