Level 8 Diploma + PhD as ABD at Marywood U
#1
As I was also considering the possibility of doing a Level 8 + topup Phd/DBA, I knew from the forum that National U is an option.
Today I found Marywood University also has ABD pathway for their Phd in strategic leadership.

https://www.marywood.edu/news/phd-completion-program

so completely online, if accepted for this pathway, you only need to complete 18 credits X $1,000 + fees? = less than $20,000.
Sounds like a acceptable plan for the price.
And the level 8 diplomas are business subjects, seems like good match for transfer.

That's an interesting option for people who can afford this program... It can rival some of the other options out there...

Marywood seems like a good option. I went to Northcentral University before it became National. I am ABD status. National plays too many games and they do not listen to their students and it is very expensive. I am thinking of going back to Baker College in January for their DBA-ABD program.

$21k is still quite a bit for a dissertation only doctorate.

It is a lot cheaper than National. National extends your stay there. They have 4 sections in the doctorate and each section has 4 sections. They make it so you stay in each section. So the dissertation ends up being 16 classes. The whole dissertation portion at National is like $40-50,000. Its too expensive. I would start over if it was cheap and I am not interested in schools outside the U.S.

Baker you have to transfer in like 30-something credits and you take close to 30-something credits after your accepted.

Touchè. Certainly a better deal than National. Are there any other abd-DBA programs for comparable costs?

I don't know about cost but someone on this board told me that Indiana Weslayan has a DBA-ABD program but they have some specific requirements that I don't meet. I think the rwst of the ABD programs are education. I have applied to a couple and were denied for not having a degree in education.

For those of us who may try to copy your success,
Which level 8 program did you do and which agency will you use to transfer it to the US?

Associates in: EMS, History, and Philosophy
Certificates in: Military History and Quality Assurance
B.S. in: Emergency Management and Healthcare Admin
M.S. in: Public Safety Administration
In Progress:
Graduate Certificate in: National Security
Looking into doctoral programs

I plan to take this one, as it has two courses of research methods (60 UK credits = 12 US credits?)
Research methods should be easy to transfer in, the other courses not sure

I plan to do UK level 8 diploma also, I do not know what will be better in the future, but OTHM has a little bit less level 8 courses. I thought before that Qualifi is better as there are more level 8 courses, but I think now that 60 UK credits level 8 courses definitely should be better than 20 UK credits level 7 (for research).

OTHM:
8 20 Developing Strategic Management and Leadership Potential
8 20 Managing Strategic Change
8 20 Project Development, Planning and Management
8 40 Advanced Research Design and Methodologies
8 20 Developing Research Capability

+ 3 * 20 level 7 courses
= 120 lvl 8 + 60 lvl 7

Qualifi:
8 20 Leadership Qualities and Practice
8 20 Personal Leadership Development as a Strategic Manager
8 20 Strategy Development in Cross Border and Global Organisations
8 20 Strategic Planning in Cross Border and Global Organisations
8 20 Strategic Direction in Cross Border and Global Organisations
8 20 Strategic Communication
8 20 Culture and its Impact on Strategy
7 20 Research Methods

= 140 lvl 8 + 20 lvl 7
