Kaplan Documenting Your Experiences for College Credit
#61
Thanks. I went through all of the quizzes to make sure I didn't miss any when compiling that score list, made sure the completion date was correct, then went back to ACE and edited and resubmitted. I didn't think to double-check my name spelling and so on, so if it fails to go through again I'll check all that and call if everything looks correct.

Just a short update. ACE emailed me today and my Kaplan PLA was accepted this time. I didn't change anything or retake any exams, just went to the ACE website, clicked "edit" on the course, and then submitted again. Don't know what happened the first time but glad it's done now!

Is this course not valid anymore? I saw that ACE recommendation ended 4/30/16.
I am new to this and would appreciate if someone can confirm and guide please?

Wow, that's interesting.

Here's the completely unhelpful reply I just got from Kaplan after asking if it's currently up for re-evaluation/re-approval:

Hi [jsd],

I am not aware of that, you will have to contact ACE directly for clarification. However, I see that you completed your quizzes from February, if you haven't already you can submit your ACE request so we can grant the approval.

I contacted ACE just for the heck of it, but as one would suspect, it's up to Kaplan if they're going to go for renewal, not ACE. So referring me to ACE was unhelpful (as you would suspect.)

[jsd],

At this moment, it does not look like we are looking to re-review at this moment – however, this could change depending on Kaplan’s participation with us, which as of this moment, I am not sure of. Sorry I could not be more definitive, but as of this moment, the course is no longer recommended.

My apologies,

If they do not seek renewal for the LRC course I would not be surprised. They are losing a LOT of revenue offering it. I *think* It was intended for *potential students* to learn about the portfolio process. Since students have learned that it can be used for credit w/o attending the school I can't see the advantage to KU for continuing to offer it. Just my humble opinion Smile

I agree, and I also don't think it was, er, rigorous enough to really warrant ACE recommendation in the first place.

That being said, I'm happy I got it done and transferred to TESU while I still could Wink

Haha, I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't get renewed due to the same reason. I'm glad I got this done in time too. Thanks again to you and dfrecore for helping me find this course earlier in April!

I have to agree with all of this, those that managed to get a bunch of FEMA exams counted as credit probably feel the same way. Honestly I feel the same way about that Institutes ethics course and the TEEX courses too. None of them strike me as "college level" but then, I've never attended a brick & mortar school so what do I know.

I do know that if the SL IT101 (which is provided in some way or another by Carnegie Mellon) course I'm about 3/4 done with is any indication of what actual college courses are like, many of THOSE should not count for credit either. Wink

I completed this course on 3/24 and have it on my ACE transcript, but I haven't sent the transcript to TESU yet. I should still get the credit for it right?
