Intro To Psych And Intro To Sociology
#11
Hi good luck taking your exams! The Intro to Sociology is really not bad (I haven't taken Intro to Psychology yet) The REA is just a review book, which I also use to study for my CLEPs. They come with practice tests too. Here's the link: Amazon.com: CLEP Introductory Sociology (REA)-The Best Test Prep for the CLEP Exam (Test Preps) (9780878919031): William Egelman, Robyn A. Goldstein Fuchs, Sherry Larkin, Paul T. Murray, Thomas J. Sullivan: Books
Amazon.com: CLEP Introductory Psychology (REA) - The Best Test Prep for the CLEP (Test Preps) (9780738600871): Don J. Sharpsteen Ph.D.: Books
Good luck!

Just go to sparknotes.com. Sparkcharts can be downloaded from barnes and noble for around $4.95 each. Just take a deep breath and realize you can do this. When I first started I did 18 credits in one month to finish my AS degree. I had no experience with DSST or CLEP prior to that. If I can do it at my age, with just what I did for studying, you most certainly can. Just keep a positive attitude and realize that after you do your first exam, you will be able to relax and with any future exams. It is the first exam that does all in with stress! You won't find a better place for support and friendship. Good luck!

@prettyprincess- THANK YOU. I just scored the REA Sociology from your link for $13 and change with shipping and handling. YAYAYAYAY! Good luck with Psychology!

@marianne202- You don't know how much your words mean to me. Thank you so much for the friendship and support! I wish I could give you advice, but girl you got it covered!! Impressive list of CLEP successes at the end of your message. I am so impressed with everyone's lists. Anyway, yes I will take a deep breathe. I am post-bac and post-masters, 34 years old! So my mind needs an air refreshener(sp). I am going to buy some spark notes for $5 each, sounds good! I'll start with the next topic, cognition.

THANKS LADIES!!

Shine on.

Adrienne, I got my AS at 46 after being out of school for many, many years. You are a young pup with more importantly, a young pup brain! At 47 I'm just starting my master's, so you are light years ahead of me. The sparkcharts should be just under sociology and psychology. They also have some like abnormal psych, but I doubt you will need that for your exams. I recommend that you look at the free sparknotes first and print them off for reference. Make sure that you check the spark charts preview before you buy it as it might be the same as the free material you already have. Just a heads up. I have no doubt you will do fine. Please post and let us know how you do.

Marianne202- BTW wow! An AS in 1 month. That is impressive. I don't know about lightyears, I think you have me beat! ;-) I printed out 1 chapter in sparknotes to see how I do with that new chapter. Before I study it, I'm going back to the other chapters and using InstantCert flashcards, which are really helping me. Then, I goto this other site I found:

CLEP Test Review | DOME Exam Prep - CLEP

to basically boost my bruised ego from the flashcards to a multiple choice quiz. Doing really really well on the quizes...I'll do Peterson right after. Checking the Specific Exam Feedback like Creative suggested. And ordered the REA book very cheap from Amazon like prettyprincess and everyone is saying to.

Now that I have a rhythm and these proven resources by you guys, I feel so much better and more confident. Thank you. Well, cheers to another good day of studying. I have until next Wednesday, February 22nd to study for the psychology. And if I pass, I'll throw a party and you're all invited. :-)

Marianne, on closing, it is so nice to feel the connection between us. I think in a lot of ways we are in the same boat if you think about it. :-) You are a young pup too!

Goodnight, InstantCert! Any posts welcomed.

REA is superb for psychology and lots of others.
Use the flashcards after reading the REA book.
Trying to learn a new topic through flashcards will leave many holes in your knowledge.

@ Ryoder-

YES! Good advice because my ego was really being bruised with flashcards. I had taken notes on every topic (half the exam content only), but the notes didn't hit the topics to study. I can't WAIT for the REA books to come into the mail, you guys really seem to like those! I wish it were coming today as my Valentine's Day present! hahaha. Anyway, in the meantime I'll try and read the spark notes, chapter summaries and bold prints of the textbooks I have then do flashcards. No more diving into flashcards without knowing the topic. THANK YOU!

Searching this site brings up this post http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...overy.html that provides a link to a free Wikibook on sociology. I skimmed the book and it is pretty good. I searched the downloadable pdf for superego and glass ceiling. Neither was found, so you need to do some additional reading.

Glass ceiling - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sigmund Freud - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It would be great if more people who have passed sociology would go to http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...overy.html, review the Wikibook, and post links to additional resources. Maybe this Wikibook and free Peterson's are all that is needed.

The Introduction to Psychology Wikibook isn't as good as the Introduction to Sociology Wikibook, but it is probably worth a read.

Hi!

THANK YOU for the advice. It is interesting that it is all you needed and I am very impressed. I will check out the sites and use this to study. I'm sure it will break down the topics for me. Can't wait till Sociology. (not) hahahah! But the words of encouragement and advice from everyone is getting me through this so thank you again.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone on InstantCert!

Xo,
Adrienne
