1. In my degree plan I have a subject MAT 140: Mathematics for Business

Sophia courses:
- Foundations of Statistics
- Introduction to College Mathematics
- Foundations of College Algebra (no longer on Sophia?)
- Introductory Applied Math (no longer on Sophia?)

They all have an UMPI equivalent of MAT 1XX.

Does that mean that finishing any one of these four would fulfill the MAT 140: Mathematics for Business?


2. Kind of the same question for BUS 353: Legal & Ethical Environment of Business
Seems to be fulfilled by Sophia's "Business Ethics".
Is that correct?


3. The Sophia transfer table has the subjects Introductory Applied Math & Foundations of College Algebra.
But it seems that it's not available on Sophia anymore, so maybe it could be removed from the Wiki.

1. MAT 1XX (or BUS 1XX, etc.) means that it's a 100-level class with no specific equivalency at UMPI. Some students have reported some success in transferring in Calculus instead of MAT 140, but that's not really a viable option for most. If you'd rather not attempt Calculus, either take MAT140 at UMPI or Business 110: Business Math at Study.com.
2. Yes, this one is correct.
3. I hesitate to remove information from the wiki, because there's always a good chance that we'll get a student who took these when they were available. That said, you bring up a good point. They should be moved to a section on defunct credits.

1. I don't understand the whole levels system (L, U, S). But I suspect that the S level is for high school and the L level is some kind of lower-level credit.
The vast majority of these would probably be non-transferable, mostly due to being unrelated to business or IT.

2. At what point do transfers happen at UMPI? Do I transfer and then apply? Can I transfer after applying, during a semester, etc.?

Wow, that's 79 credits... at this point, you can take 11 credits more for max transfer of your credits! I would check all the general education and electives to make sure everything has transferred over, you can take remaining outstanding classes using Sohpia.org as your best option for up to 11 credits, apply and complete the remaining classes at UMPI. When you have an evaluation from UMPI, you'll know what remaining classes you have to take from them for whichever degree you decide on, such as the BLS with Management and a second minor in MIS or whatever...

I suspect you're right about S being "high school" and L being LL, U being UL. That does seem to match up with the credits they have listed for each credential.

The credits will all work as electives, at the very least, so they won't be entirely wasted. But electives are limited. Any additional credits that are neither electives nor meet degree requirements will still show up on your final UMPI transcript but will not count toward your transfer limit. Example: if you had 100 credits in Ballet plus 9 credits that meet GEC requirements, UMPI would count that as approximately 27 credits in transfer (~18 electives + 9 GEC) but the transcript would show the full 109 credits transferred. I hope this makes sense!

I'm not seeing anything that says it's a lab science, so you'll still need that from Sophia. I've lost track of whether or not you've completed Human Biology + Lab yet, but that's what you need. Organic Chem is a physical science, as are the other sciences on your evaluation, so you don't need to do Intro to Chemistry @ Sophia.

You apply, then transfer what you have immediately. Then you become enrolled. I would recommend ensuring that you have at least met GEC requirements first. You can transfer in credits after you're enrolled, but it requires permission to do so. It also takes time away from your studies, and that can ultimately lead to slowing down and wasting money at Sophia/SDC/UMPI.

Thanks for sharing your evaluation results! As someone with vocational degree from the same city (2 years after 11th grade), I was very interested to see them. Good to know that it's equal to associate's degree in the US.

Have you tried to evaluate your education in the EU? Or you're going to work towards US diploma only?

Oh wow, nice to hear! I would say there is too much negative hype regarding our qualifications. A degree is a degree, we spent years earning it.
I have not tried to evaluate it in the EU. I don't know how yet. But I will need to do it if I want to apply to Metropolia.

If anyone has any advice or just knows of any accreditation services for the EU, it would be appreciated, and I could start investigating it.


It seems like so much effort is being put into all of this, but I have to say it is an interesting journey. I am very excited and grateful for everyone's input here.
I can't believe that I may actually have a degree if things continue moving forward as they are. I'm mature enough to understand that it may or may not actually help me in real life, but somehow it's just something that I really want to do. It's a confidence boost. It will remove a mental block and make my parents calmer for what it's worth. Overall, I just really like doing things in life the "non-standard way". And getting a degree like this is still something that only a minority of people do. Not in a "I'm better than everyone" way, but in a "there is always a way, think outside the box" way.
Ok, I think I'm rambling now 

But again, I have to say thank you to everyone for all the input. I will keep you updated.

Depends on the country where you wish to study.
Germany, I believe Anabin. Czech republic, the university itself, also maybe ministry of education in borderline cases.

1. If I do the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate, will I only get 6 new credits since 6 of them basically repeat themselves? I actually only need to do 50% of the course since the last two cover it partially.
2. If I finish the IBM Full Stack Software Developer Professional Certificate, how will that look in the diploma transcript? Do I understand correctly that in the transcript I would have the
“cloud computing, web development, server development” subjects listed, or would I have the certificate listed? It kind of makes sense to add it to increase my chances of transferring credits to an IT degree or trying to apply for a Masters in IT. Instead of just filling it up with random electives. I think it was mentioned above already, but it’s best to clarify just in case.
