I just thought if I was going to get concentration that EC-SUNY may just be a cheaper option for me.

But heck, you have some awesome points. I just thought I was actually majoring in Mathematics and Natural Sciences ya know?

So with this being said, I'll be frank. It's now my goal to earn the QUICKEST/most affordable degree possible and perhaps you have an awesome point. TESC just may be the way. I guess I shouldn't give up hope on them if that's my goal.

I think it's important to know what you're buying, that being said, what you thought you were getting was different from the reality so I get that you're upset.

There are two words that get tossed around, and because they mean different things at different colleges, myths and assumptions cloud the issue. At TESC, there are concentrations first. These are broad liberal arts options in which you earn all of your credits in a field (as opposed to a topic) and in doing so you have the maximum flexibility. For instance, within math and science FIELD you can take whatever you want to hit the requirement. Easy. Then, at TESC you have majors. Majors are specific prescriptions of specific courses that you must take in a specific topic. So, should you prefer a degree in biology, you couldn't use the other natural science courses- you'd have to take biology courses (as well as physics, etc).

ALL OF THIS CHANGES once you start talking about another college. You can't throw around the word "major" and get a universal understanding. The distinctions and definitions of majors, concentrations, etc are brand specific. Frankly, people here don't always understand this issue, though we talk about it AT LENGTH. As you have found it IS confusing. If you attended a different brand college, perhaps their difference between a concentration/major is the addition of a foreign language credit, or internship, or thesis. See? Even if you understand your own college, it's not relevant to the rest of the world because each college has their own process.

What's important to know, is that these words are not standardized. So, if you graduate from TESC, your resume would look like this:

Thomas Edison State College, BA Natural Science and Mathematics

Calling it one thing or another doesn't matter. It's like saying you don't want to eat at a pasta restaurant because you don't want pasta, what you want is called spaghetti. See?

Haha, I like that analogy! It's just that the counselor told me that it would not show up on my transcript as such, so I figured it would be a lie to place that on my resume...then given that they do background checks and all of that............. ya know? :/

Do you know how ESC courses will transfer to say TESC or COSC? I too noticed that most of their courses are 4 credits...

I'm not sure, but I would think they would drop you down to 3 credits.
