I used the REA test prep book for the CLEP generals (version with umpteen practice tests) and the Barron's 2008 clep general test prep book (it was a gift).
I recomend taking one or two practice tests and then doing a post mortem to determine your weak areas. By post mortem I mean going through your results and looking for trends to find your weak areas. For example, lets say you bomb every sociology question. This means you need more prep in that area.
Wikipedia, free university project, and IC will all have resources for you to shore up your weak areas. Then you can do the rest of the practice tests in the REA book, do a peterson's, and when you can score about 70-80% take a shot at it. I've taken 3 CLEPS (including ss& hist) and the test prep material was marginally more difficult than the actual exam.
The answer explanations will teach you alot about the subject matter, so do not neglect them!!!
Good luck and God bless!

Sigh, first inclination was to make a sarcastic reply.
Second thought was just to report the post and move on. Being mature is such a drag sometimes.

Chebasaz, what did I miss? Did a comment get deleted? Fill me in. Anyway, I just completed my Social Science and History CLEP. I was hoping for a 60-65 based on the first practice exam I took. The subsequent 2 Peterson exams.... I did progressively worse, about 50-55%. Going into the exam I was just hoping to pass. Pass I did!!! 67 Yippee!!!

Great job!! I am considering taking this one so it's good to know how to judge the practice tests. Now on to the next one!

Congrats on the pass with such a great score!
As for what you missed; it was just a Chinese freight company spammer. Nothing too earth shattering.

I definitely recommend IC and also the Comex book for this test. Find a few areas you're already strong in, brush up on those and then study hard on the areas you don't know. Good luck and God bless! I'm sure you'll do fine.
