Hello,
I am very nervous about my FIRST CLEP test I will be taking next month. I really cannot afford to wait another six months to take this test, if I fail, since this is the only course I need to graduate by this semester :/. I need to PASS! I made a study plan to prepare for the test, and I was wondering if anyone could please take a look at it and give any suggestions. I would really appreciate it.
I have AP Cliffnotes book, and my plan is to focus on one chapter a day. Let say that first chapter is on "Chemistry", I would read the AP Cliffnotes and use for other resources online such as EP (as solioquy suggested) and REA book as supplements. I would study the chapter until I feel confident on the subject, and then I focus on the next chapter. AP Cliffnotes book has about 17 chapters, so I wanted to give myself about 20 days to study the material. And give me about a week to REVIEW by taking practice test, looking up explanations of answers, and reviewing notes. Will this plan work?
I have not made an appointment to take the test yet because I was not sure when I will be REALLY ready. If I do follow this plan, I am planning to take the test on 10/16/13 (or sometime later that week). I will be studying less than four months. I was planning to give myself more time to study, but I realized that giving myself more time doesn't guarantee a passing score. I will probably suffer more thinking about the test!!
Again, I know nothing about Biology and need to pass this test. Will this plan work? Any suggestions? Should I give myself more time? Any tips on strategies? I would appreciate any information you could provide me!
Thank you.

Pre-Study-Prep: Obtain or set up whatever materials I will need to study (IC Flashcards, REA Books, Standard Deviants Videos, Pass-Your-Class Guides, and Petersons Practice Exams.
Week One: Begin to read books, review flashcards, watch videos. Call your test center and make an appointment in advance as they sometimes require a few weeks advance notice).
Week Two: Re-read books, review flashcards, watch videos Take 1-2 practice exams* (REA, Petersons).
Week Three: Continue to review all materials, take additional/final practice exams. You should be passing these with room to spare. Take real exam at end of the week and PASS. In addition, you should have at this point already acquired pre-study-prep materials for your next exam so as not to waste time.[/COLOR]
* It should be noted that there are many (like me) who feel that the practice exams may be a bit more difficult and as such if you are able to "pass" a practice exam (with room to spare) you should do well when you sit the actual exam.

FACT: The lowest possible score is a 20. The highest possible is an 80.
FACT: Approx. 1/2 the questions on the test must be successfully answered to get a 50, or a pass.
THE HYPOTHESIS: In a 100 question test, such as Sociology and many others, there are only 60 possible points (between 20-80) for 100 questions.
60 points divided by 100 questions = .6pts
If each questions is worth .6 points, 50 correct questions = 50q X .6pts = 30pts
You must add 20 since 0 correct questions = 20pts.
30 points + 20 points = 50 points, or a pass.
Now: If each point in a 100 question test is worth .6 points, 100 questions X .6 points = 60; 60 + 20 = 80.
By this formula, answering 75 questions correctly would translate to a score of 65.

For a brief period of time, the official CLEP documents were available from the web. On one of the tests, you needed to get 2/3 correct to pass. Some required less than half, some more than half to pass. CLEP tests showed less variability than DSST published pass thresholds.

I thought the CLEP bio was much easier than people made it out to be
this is what I used
Biology Made Simple: Rita Mary King: 9780767915427: Amazon.com: Books
it was not enough to answer every question but it was more than enough to pass
my only other source was high school biology 20 years go lol
I don't think I could do what you're doing (studying so much ever single day)
I would get burned out
but I'm sure you can pass

Hi Bluebooger (lols),
Really? It wasn't that hard? I was planning to study only a chapter a day, but than I realized a chapter of AP book summarizes 2 - 3 chapters in a regular biology book. There were a lot of terminologies and information, so it took me few day to study the first chapter. I thought a chapter a day would be doable :/. Thank you for sharing your experience! I do hope I PASS!! :X

Hey Clep3705,
Thank you for the post. I've already had that post (the one with wikipedia links) bookmarked even before I started this thread. I am using the links to study. Thank you!!! clep3705 Wrote:Use this search string with Bing or Google:

Are you an IC member? If so there were some great resources on the Specific exam feedback section. I can't get in to that anymore, but I would think there is still great resources and a study guide or 2. If it takes you a couple of days to study 1 Cliff notes chapter I would say you are probably going to deep into the subject. Know the parts of the cell and how they work not every little detail. Know the classification system and memorize the order. If you go to deep into one area you might miss the overall picture. Take as many practice test as you can find, review the IC flashcards, and search this forum for Biology CLEP even if not an IC member there are some good threads. This recent one is a good example of how it can go http://www.degreeforum.net/general-educa...lep-2.html
Good Luck You CAN do it.

Hi Lindagerr,
Thanks for the post! You are right, I think I am too deep into the subject. BUT there are so much information and terminologies, I am having hard time remember all of them. I tried taking the chapter test, and I had to go back to my notes and text for answers. I sometimes feel like I am not doing this right. I understand the concepts and how chemistry works, but is it necessary to know every terminologies the book mentions? I'll take your advice and move on to next chapter which is on "Cells" and see how that goes. I wanted to take this test before I go out of town which is 10/16, but at this rate, I feel like I need to extend the date... :/ I read all the forums, gained lots of info and advices, and resources.. and I just feel like I can't do it!! WHY!! -0- I've seen solioquy's post. I've actually messaged solioquy, and he/she shared so much info with me.
Thank you!
I appreciate taking your time to write the post. Thank you!
