Help with Pierpont
#1
Hello Everyone,

Thank you for all the help you have given me. My son wants to get a Pierpont degree with a concentration in business. He has over 45 general education credits in math, science, social studies, communication, and English from Sophia. Does anyone know what Sophia courses count towards the 15 required credits for the business concentration? Thank you!

Hi Risa, here's the WIKI for Pierpont, it's got all the info you need (if not most of the info).  Work on certs, gain experience, ladder to the UMPI degree.
If he's missing a course or two, he can take it from Saylor.org for $5 each.  Link: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC

Edit to add: Here's the equivalency for Sophia.org classes if he intends to go to UMPI: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/So...lency_List
And he can work on certs plus get some experience by using the cheap/free options here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Fr..._of_Credit

Question for yourself, have you started on your Excelsior BSLA capstone yet as per your previous thread?

Hi, thanks for your reply!

After reading the link, I'm still a little confused with the business concentration credits. Would all of the Sophia courses under the business category (except intro to business) fulfill the 15 credit requirement?

As for the Excelsior Capstone, I have only 1 week left! It's been challenging but not as bad as I thought it would be. I'm very thankful to you and everyone here for the help with my Bachelor's degree!

Yes, those business courses will fit the category just fine... I updated my original post to add a few things...

Okay, thanks.

One more question, do you know if the principles of management and/or principles of marketing CLEP exams also count towards the 15 required business credits? If they do count, he'd only need 1-2 more Sophia courses.

They accepted both of those CLEP exams for me last week for an AOE in business.

That's right, if your son has completed some CLEP/MS previously, he'll be familiar with the system, take all the freebies you can get... or Sophia.org membership, if you have a membership already, continue taking the bulk of the credits that go towards your Pierpont BOG AAS and also will go towards the UMPI BLS with a minor of your choice.

I think a safe way to figure out what will count towards a concentration in business at Pierpont is to look at the corresponding Business Associates degree at Pierpont and see what the "core" courses are within the degree. Here is the business management associates there.
https://catalog.pierpont.edu/preview_pro...urnto=1016
Here are their required "core" courses for the management degree.
BUSN 1102 - Introduction to Business 3 hr(s).
BUSN 2300 - Legal Aspects of Business 3 hr(s).
BUSN 2995 - Integrated Business Strategies 3 hr(s).
~ENGL 1108 - Written English II 3 hr(s). (“C” or higher required for graduation)
ENTR 1109 - Entrepreneurship & Sm Bus Mgmt 3 hr(s).
FINC 2201 - Introduction to Financial Management 3 hr(s).
MGMT 2209 - Principles of Management 3 hr(s).
MKTG 2204 - Principles of Marketing 3 hr(s).
~PSYG 1101 - Introduction to Psychology 3 hr(s).
I would match up to some of those to make sure I chose courses that they consider part of the required business courses that talk about business or marketing for example.
