Getting 60 credits for police department quickly
#1
Hello! I am looking to go into the police academy and need 60 college credits as soon as possible. I was hoping for a CRJ degree but am open to other suggestions.

Location: Delaware USA
Age: 21 years old
Degree wanted: Criminal justice but open to suggestions

Current college: Delaware Technical school
Current credits: 6 credits

Courses taken:
General Psychology 3.000 credits
Intro to criminal justice 3.000 credits

Budget: Budget is not a problem, I will spend the money needed to complete this quickly.

Time to study: I can spend as much time as needed to study. I work full time but have a very flexible schedule.

Timeline: I am hoping to get this completed in a year or less. If I have to take courses while studying to take Clep and similar tests I can do that as well. Just want to complete this as soon as possible

There are departments that require 30 credits, or none at all. It is an option for me to join a small town then transfer to the state which is my plan. However, it would be nice to just complete this degree very quickly so I can go straight to state. I do very well on tests so I’m not too worried about failing the tests. I just don’t understand the topic enough to know what college to pick if I can’t do it at my local college, and how to get started with everything. Thank you

Do you have a preference for exams or papers? UMPI has a degree in criminal justice which you can complete in a year or less if you have the time to dedicate to studying. Several people have completed 90 transferable credits on Sophia and Study in less then 6 months. They then complete 1 or 2 sessions (8 or 16 weeks) at UMPI to complete their degree.

I am a really good exam taker so I’d definitely prefer those over writing papers. Find it easier to study as well.

The fastest/easiest/cheapest way to get 60 credits would be to get the FREE Pierpont degree: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pierpont_C%26TC

2-3 months @ Sophia for $99/mo. and you already have the RA credits needed. Total: about $300 for an Associate degree.

From there, you could continue on to a Bachelor's degree at UMPI. You'll probably need/want a Bachelor's degree in the future for promotion. https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Pi...egree_Plan

There's also a specific Criminal Justice degree plan here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/UM...egree_Plan If you follow that, you'll automatically hit the requirements for the Pierpont degree along the way.
In progress:
TESU - BA Computer Science; BSBA CIS; ASNSM Math & CS; ASBA

Completed:
Pierpont - AAS BOG
Sophia (so many), The Institutes (old), Study.com (5 courses)
ASU: Human Origins, Astronomy, Intro Health & Wellness, Western Civilization, Computer Appls & Info Technology, Intro Programming
Strayer: CIS175, CIS111, WRK100, MAT210

About how long does something like this take to complete? For the 60 credits that is. The overview has me quite a bit confused so I’ll need to do further digging

Depends on how much time you spend on the courses. Many people spend less than 6 months on the courses from Sophia and Study.

I guess I’m a little bit confused, where do the 60 credits come from to transfer to pierpont? The Sophia courses?

@Mwalsh7199, sign up for Sophia.org - do the 4 months for $299 (25% off) and complete as many as you can, you should be able to get at least 90 credits through Sophia.org using a second monitor for multi-tasking and checking the pdf resources they provide you. It's non-proctored, using the honor system, so the only restriction is - no outside help, it's all open book. You can work on two courses at a time, unlimited courses/month, after you finish one, add another... work on the ones without touchstones first and the required ones for the Pierpont BOG AAS as per wiki. Create a spreadsheet for reference and tracking purposes...

Ok. So I sign up for Sophia. I do the couple of months and get let’s say 90 credits like you said. Then once that’s all done I follow the pierpont method that you linked?

How long it takes depends on the person. Some people are able to get 60 credits in a single month. That's a bit much, but technically doable. Others need 5 or 6 months, especially if they're doing multiple classes with assignments at Sophia (Touchstones). 2-3 months is about the average.

And, yes, the 60 credits would come from Sophia. Sophia credits can be used at Pierpont, UMPI, TESU, etc. If you'd rather do exams, UMPI might not be right for you. But, then you're going to have to get a Bachelor's degree in something else. TESU's Criminal Justice degree is almost impossible to get quickly/easily/cheaply.

You can see degree plans for TESU degrees here: https://degreeforum.miraheze.org/wiki/Sa...ts_Roadmap Perhaps one of those strikes your fancy? Yes, CJ is listed, but it's not really recommended.
