General Ed Descriptions
#1
I'm sure this has been answered before, but I couldn't find it via search, so feel free to reply with a link to an existing thread.

Is there some "trick" for understanding the newer general ed designations? I understood "mathematics," "English," etc. Most of these newer general ed categories are politically-correct gobbledygook to me, and other than the courses explicitly listed, I'm struggling to get a grasp of what falls under which category umbrellas.

(Also, my TESU evaluation has slots for both "mathematics" and "quantitative literacy," which I thought was the newer name for mathematics, and I can't figure out if I really need both or if it's an oversight. When I asked them, they just pointed me to a link with the apparently-conflicting information, so I'm not any clearer on that. Anyone happen to know?)

here are examples for each category. note that they're not the ONLY courses that can work, they're the ones that TESU specifically offers.

Depends on which degree you're getting as to whether there's an additional Math area to fill in addition to Quant Lit. The BSBA has one. Most of the BSAST's do as well.

Also, some degrees require specific math's, so you need to scroll down to the bottom to see what those are. For the BSBA, for instance, you need College Algebra and Statistics. You can do other math courses, but those MUST be taken.

Thanks! Some of those lists make sense to me, but for others, I can't really sort out what the commonality is.

My current designation is "Learner Designed Area of Study," so I'm not sure why the additional math requirement is there. It doesn't specify what it has to be, just that I still lack 3 hours in one and 3 hours in the other. I was planning on Principles of Statistics to satisfy the one course, but I can't figure out if I really need two. My thinking is that it's a space-filler because they don't know whether it's needed or not, but if they won't answer the question when asked I'm not sure how to find out.

I would take Intermediate Algebra and College Algebra if you can pass both on ALEKS before the month is up. They should work.

You could take them, transfer them to ACE, send your ACE transcript to TESU, and make sure that they work before having to take anything else.

I'm honestly not sure I can pass any algebra with months of study. It's been 20 years since I used it. lol

Oops; that should have said without but I seem unable to edit it.

The sooner you start, the sooner you'll finish. If you don't pass, at least you'll be through 20 days of studying for them, and can take an exam another way. The Math TECEP is pretty easy once you complete ALEKS' Intermediate Algebra (a lot of overlap there).
