Free professional certificates at Rasmussen
#21
Hello all,

Just as an FYI - As of right now there is no certificate. These courses are badge only. I know this because I completed the Organizational Leadership and Development courses and reached out to them by email. They replied with "badge only". I sent them a screenshot on the certificate intro page that says "Completing these courses will qualify you for the Professional Certificate. Show your proficiency by sharing your badges AND certificate on your resume or LinkedIn". That was Monday and today is Thursday. Either they are taking a few days to figure it out or they just put me on the pay no mind list. If you are taking a course, send them an email about the certificate. Maybe more voices will help them realize that not everyone wants a silly LinkedIn badge.

Well that's a bummer. I don't care about a badge. Badges seem like giving a gold star to an elementary school children for getting a 100 on their weekly spelling quiz. Coursera gives you a digital certificate than you can print out. I prefer those....I can print them and keep track of them. Badges will come and go.

I agree, badges are silly. Maybe more people emailing them will get the ball rolling.

Aside from not getting a certificate (yet), what did you think of the courses? Easy? Difficult? Too long? Too short?

Hello all!

Well, the first Rasmussen University Personal Support Center Rep (Kurt) has cut off all communication with me. I have reopened the support ticket requesting a certificate instead of a badge. I now have another Personal Support Center Rep (Danielle) looking into the issue. I'm guessing that she will cut off communication in a few days as well. It seems as though Rasmussen just wants to use the free certificate program as a path into its degree programs. If you have no desire to pursue a degree there then they have no desire to help you. And by help I mean respond to messages. There will be no help for a certificate as it seems they are sticking to their "badges only" policy.

As far as the actual courses. I thought they were pretty easy except for the Project Deliverables. The Organizational Leadership certificate requires 2 PowerPoint presentations (one for each course). I thought I did well and followed the rubric exactly. The teacher seemed to disagree. No matter what I did, it seemed like I had to do more and resubmit. When I met the 80% minimum required on the assignments, the Rasmussen system automatically issued badges, although the teacher wanted me to continue to work. I will not be resubmitting the assignments as I have been issued a badge for each course and a badge for the "Professional Certificate". I am done.

TLDR - There probably won't be a certificate issued for the "Professional Certificate" course, only a badge. And the teachers want you to do more work than necessary on the assignments. Rasmussen University seems so "scammy".

Thank you for sharing your experience.   I will probably keep these low on my list of things to do.  I don’t mind badges.  If they are on Credly, they will fit in nicely with the badges I have earned from other providers so far.  Hopefully you were able to learn something from the courses.

Are they Credly badges? LinkedIn badges? Something else?

Honestly no one is asking to see the printed certificate anyway. It's still good resume fluff if it's relevant to what you're applying to.

I was curious about the deliverables. Seemed odd to require a paper for a free class. I think I'll stick with Coursera and LinkedIn Learning. I like that Coursera gives me a digital certificate. I save them all in a file. Badges are harder to keep track of.

The website info says LinkedIn badges. I don't think you'll see them on Credly as these are are not ACE courses and have no credit of any kind.

The badges are used in only two places.. The eRasmussen website and LinkedIn. There are no badges on Credly.

I know no one is asking to see the printed certificate. It is for me. I thought that a "Certificate Program" would have a certificate of completion. Had I known that they would only issue a badge I probably wouldn't have done the courses. It is absolutely absurd that a CERTIFICATE course doesn't offer a certificate.

Credly is not exclusive to ACE credits.  That free certificate from USF from last year issued a Credly badge.  Same with the non-credit LawShelf courses I took.

Right, I have a handful of badges on Credly that have nothing to do with ACE. Acclaim/Credly existed for a long time before they got involved with ACE transcripts.

LinkedIn badges feel even more worthless than Credly to me, though I'm not sure why. That's disappointing.
