Right!
Once the FEMA credits are successfully transcripted by an RA institution, I believe they are as solid as any other RA credits. The RA institution is, in effect, giving their assurance that they have evaluated the credits and have awarded RA credit for them. From that point on, it is the RA institution, rather than FEMA, which now gives it's full RA backing and support to those credits.

That's exactly what I had to do - 7 FEMA credits via FCC to EC.

Yeah....I just completed the 7 courses/tests for the Professional Development Series in a couple of days. Actually, there is some pretty good information throughout the series and it definitely wasn't a waste of time. I am studying for the DSST Principles of Supervision exam currently and noticed quite a bit of the same jargon mixed in. I'll have to see if WBU will accept these as credit for an elective or two I need.
Glad I ran across this post.
Thanks,
Alaskan

I read that thread too. He got something like 40 FEMA credits converted via a TESC credit bank account. 40 credits for $350. Ha ha!
This happened just this last August (2005). I would ask Toby to please confirm it with her superior, because they DEFINITELY did allow it a few months ago.
Wow. 40 Credits, eh? What Can one do exactly with 40 credits of Professional Elective?
Seriously, I have 31 Technical Credits, and 4 Physical Ed Credits, I don't think will apply towards anything but "Professional Elective."
I was all about jumping on the FEMA Bandwagon, too. Even earning the PDS certification, adding 7 more credits to the already rotting heap of Tech credits. This Brings me to a total of 42 Credits that will only be used in Free Electives.
Last I checked, Free Electives don't have pits that deep.
It breaks my heart to know that I spent so much time earning my Tech and FEMA credits, just to see them waste away.
I bring up the question again, How can that many Credits even be used in a Degree?
Cheers

I didn't intend to sound negative.
40 credits is awesome, and I commend the student for the victory.
I just fail to see what that many will do.
Cheers

Hi shadowcross,
Ha ha! Yeah...too negative! But I understand why you would have this concern.
hilarious
I have really enjoyed the VARIETY of credits I have earned as electives towards my degree. So I would not personally want to have 40 elective credits from one subject area (such a waste of an opportunity to learn other stuff). However, I can see how it could be done....
BS Liberal Arts degree requirements:
1) At least 60 Arts & Science Credits.
2) An additional 60 credits from any combination of more A&S, or Applied Professional.
There are other requirements within those two basic ones, but there is no rule saying that you couldn't apply up to SIXTY credits worth of Applied Professional electives towards your degree.
You would just need to ensure you included a couple of 'depths' in there, perhaps a 30-credit major, and at least 30 Upper Level credits.
Most undergraduate degrees in America are likely to include a 30-credit major, and a minimum 60-credit Arts & Science distribution. Other than that, it would be easy to build 40 FEMA credits into your free electives.
Not advisable. Probably not desirable. But possible!

That is exactly what I am doing.
I am in the process of transfering 29 FEMA credits into Excelsior via TESC credit bank.
Those 29 along with the Information Literacy credit (1) is 30 applied professional credits. The other 30 credits are Computer/IT credits.
One of the things that I have found is planning the accumulation of credits has been key for me.
By the way, I believe the guy who earned the 40 credits had planned it that way because I think he was majoring in Public Safety. They work perfectly for that major. It's all in how you plan to use them.

hm...I assume too much.
I guess I was Quite sad when I got an email from Excelsior saying that they can not translate Technical Credits into Arts and Sciences.
That, coupled with the term "Professional Elective," I thought it was another term for General or free Elective.
I wanted to look up your example on Liberal Arts BA, but couldn't access it. I may be assuming again, But I believe that Excelsior's BS in General Business also has a 60 credit requirement towards Arts and Sciences. Professional Elective, I take it, will fill that degree's 27 credit "other" requirement?
This will actually re-kindle my interest in FEMA if I've got all my facts straight.
Cheers!

Bachelor of Arts
The Bachelor of Arts degree requires a total of 120 semester hours. Within that total, at least 90 semester hours must be earned in the arts and sciences with at least 30 of those 90 semester hours earned at the upper or advanced level. The remaining 30 semester hours may be earned in applied professional courses, additional arts and sciences courses, or a combination of both.
No where in the BA General Business does it mention Applied Professional. Yeah, I need to stop assuming so much.
Maybe I should consider a doing a both degrees at once. It seems that there is plently of overlap, and will give me a reason to continue doing FEMA.
I don't know very much about the process in which to do that, however.
oh well, I'm sure someone, who is working towards 2 degrees will properly enlighten me.
I look forward to that exchange
Cheers

Hi shadowcross,
Just for clarification, which two degrees are we talking about here?
