Excelsior Diploma RANT
#61
I totally agree we should start a petition on this. I sure want to get a good looking Diploma. It matters to me and I glad to know it matters to some other forum members too

If they are too lazy to even respond to an e-mail, chances are they are too lazy to do anything about their diploma. I am at least hoping I can get a ruling on the legality of me making my own. How can a college get it this wrong; are these not educated people?

Lee,

Since you ARE a bona fide graduate of Excelsior College, you wouldn't be misrepresenting any facts by creating a "symbolic/decorative" version of your diploma (the official version of which you would have on file if you ever needed to prove anything). I can't see how there would be any legal issue at all.

Also, in reality, the official diploma itself is only a SYMBOLIC representation of the college's internal RECORD of your degree. Delete the diploma...and you STILL have a degree. Delete the college's internal record of your degree...and you have nothing left but a piece of paper. The diploma itself is NOT your degree!

Therefore, I think you have nothing to worry about, in any legal sense, even if you wanted to design a 20ft high mural version of your diploma painted on the outside wall of your house. Or a 6ft x 6ft flag version to fly at full mast in your front garden.

Your local homeowner's association might disagree with me of course!

Happy Designing,

Actually I was going to paint it on a banner and tie it one of the C-130's on base to fly around with. Big Grin

We'll see what happens Monday when I go to work. I already have the design in my head and I will be sure to offer it up to anyone who wants it. CCU uses this company

Graphic-Awards.com

for its frames, they are willing to custom make as well. Since EC is located in NY I am going with the state seal on top with the school name embossed across the bottom of the matting.

As for the diploma, there really IS a set standard when it comes to their design. If you go to the link above, you'll see they're all about the same, so designing the diploma will be cake. 4dkids brought up a good idea about the watermark of the school in the background, has anyone seen a picture of the school? My wife put herself through college as a photographer so she can watermark the picture with a computer program and load it to the diploma. I'm going to scan my current "diploma" to get the signatures off of it; I'll try really hard not to disturb the gold sticker craftsmanship.Rolleyes More to come.....

OK folks, I have found the official photo of Excelsior College that you can use on your diploma etc. here is the link;

Big Rock Photo Gallery / 13Campsite Outhouse.jpg

I also found a company on ebay that willl make you an "official" college diploma for $88.00 with exactly the text you want and you get a proof before they print. The downside, they can't duplicate the tinfoil seal that excelsior uses so you will have to settle for a nice embossed gold seal like all the other schools use. Type in college diploma in the search and check it out for yourself. I haven't done this, so I make no promises.

And before you ask, no I do not make any money from these although I might camp out at EC graduations from now on and sell them. J/K

Hope this eases your fears.

I remember that someone posted a link to a picture of the EC diploma quite a while back. I can't seem to find it now. Does anyone have a picture of the current diploma that can be posted to give everyone an idea of what it looks like?

I am sad that my associates diploma will overshadow my bachelors diploma in quality. Especially since my educational experience was so much better at Excelsior. Oh well, onto the masters, I guess. Rolleyes

I found a certificate diploma from Excelsior on the web. I think it looks nicer than the degree diplomas:

If they could make the degree diplomas look like that and maybe switch the type to old english, I'd be happy as a clam. Smile
