And it's $20 that's VERY well spent!

It's ok to give out some info without selling the site (which, imo, is not worth it).

Or you could stop complaining and pay the $20 a month like the rest of us do and access it yourself. It contains way too much information for a single post. And yes, this site is worth the fee. Ask all those people who passed their CLEPs, DSSTs, ECEs, and TECEPs only using InstantCert. I know it saved me more than once and I was happy to oblige the money.

For a concentrated and focused source of information, I've found Instantcert and the feedback forum to be a bargain. Instantcert provides a start, and a means for directed study while the feedback forum provides fairly quality reports on study methods without having to search through a hundred 'what is clep' posts.

I appreciate you don't think it's worth it. You also say it's ok to give out some info. However, from your previous posts you stated you studied from a spreadsheet that was put together and posted in the respective Humanities feedback thread. Now, obviously getting directed information like that is fairly gold, say the equivalent of purchasing a book for one CLEP (sometimes the book is great, sometimes less so). Seems it was worth it, where else would you find something like that?

Was it the the spreadsheet that was the summary of all the practice questions and answers for the Humanities CLEP produced by Instantcert? If so, it doubly surprises me that you found the service overated. Also, just as you wouldn't copy all the questions and answers from a study book and post them in an open forum, it's unfair for you to do the same with Instantcert *after* you have used the material to pass a test *and* then paint the service as overpriced while disseminating its content!

Anyway, I feel the service fits a niche. On the other hand, it seems like you say you feel it doesn't meet expectations but from your actions it did the job. I encourage everyone here to help everyone else, but when one person's total contribution consists of contrary comments about the service without bringing anything else to the party it's a bit hard to avoid calling them on it.

Thanks for making a reply, mwolfe77. I agree that a lot of the information can be absorbed from the feedback forum in a month and a repeat subscription isn't always necessary or justified. The Instantcert study tools I find useful, though, especially in my experience of the Humanities test and when targeting specific tests.

I also agree that using multiple sources as study material is always going to be the best way. The best thing about the feedback part of the forum (which is a secondary/bonus feature, really) is that it helps students see what other students have done and then judge how to most efficiently approach and tailor their own study. This general idea is why, when I posted above, it was based on your own feedback of the Humanities CLEP which said:

mwolfe77 Wrote:The exam I felt was easy. I looked over that spreadsheet, studied off and on for 3 days then took the test.

I finished with an hour still to spare and a score of 64.

Finding out you did a lot more study than that obviously changes my understanding. It also helps provide a more accurate picture for other students, which is what we're all sort of about here. I was fairly terrified of the Humanities CLEP and all the feedback helped guide my study. So, getting good feedback is really useful for the next students.

Edit:

Edit to update context to help make sense of my consecutive posts.

Five minutes after initially making this post, mwolfe77 deleted a post he made which said:

mwolfe77 Wrote:I was a subscriber for my 30 days. I dropped the subscription after I saw the content. In my opinion, it was not worth the money.

As for the spreadsheet, I had already studied a tremendous amount prior to finding it. I like to download and keep things like that, though, so I can help others without having to charge them.

I looked over it sporadically then took the CLEP. In that regard, IC did not help me at all. I would have passed without the spreadsheet.

There's no point in delving into his reasons for deleting this. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think the points still stand that it's a bit off to take Instantcert's original content and hand it out for free and that reliable feedback is what makes this community useful for its members whether we're paying members or not.

Meh, censorship is a meta-discussion which goes nowhere and adds nothing to a forum. Given the circumstances, I'm going back to studying. Smile
