Hey everyone!
I have been currently studying English Comp with essay. I have read so many different posts about this topic it is making my head spin. :p Below is what I do every day for studying (my test is on the 11th of September) and I was wondering if this is enough for this test.
1. I am going through the CD's called Advanced Communication Series by Andrew Pudewa
2. I am going through the book called CLEP English Composition put out by Comex
3. I write 2 practice essays a day
4. I read my Cracking the Clep book
5. I go through the IC flashcards a bunch
Any other helpful insights?

The only other thing I can think of is to have someone who's good at writing read over your essays and give you feedback. That way you make sure you're practicing good writing habits.
Master of Management, Cambridge College, 2011. 4.00 GPA.
BS in Business Administration, Charter Oak State College, 2009. 75 semester credits earned by exam, 45 in the classroom. 3.91 GPA.
AS in General Studies, City University of Seattle, 1999. 50 quarter hours earned by exam, 40 in the classroom. 3.95 GPA.

Andrew Pudewa's programs are EXCELLENT. I use Excellence In Writing for my homeschooled children and it's A+++++ (I just finished watching one of his DVDs last night!), but I know he coaches his SAT prep students away from the 5 paragraph essay format, and I would strongly suggest that you stick with the traditional approach. I am not familiar with the advanced comp program, but I know his style, so I suspect you will do well as long as your approach is organized and your argument is well developed.
I believe that at the 101 level, English comp teachers are looking for strong basics. Introduction, 3 body, and conclusion. 5 sentence paragraphs. Decent spelling and punctuation. Don't miss the basics, or your ly words, strong verbs, and who/which clauses will fall short.
I think your study plan looks very strong, you should do well!

Here is a point for the english comp test; Make sure you have enough time to complete your essay. No matter how good you thought organization is, it is a times test and if you don't beat the buzzer you got trouble! As you are writing your essay, make sure towards the 3/4 mark you can wrap up with a conclusion if you are running out of time. I got done just under the wire, and had very little time (less than 2 min.) for a re-read. Good luck!

I have to second what grace is saying. I just took the English Comp, w/ essay today and everything stated is important. I am not the best in english comp but time did seem to fly by during this test. On each section I had only about 2-3 mintues to sit back and review what I had done.

yes, you'll have 45 and then 45 NOT 90. So, there is no way to "work really fast" on the first section to gain advantage on the second.
