English 120 VS. English 122

Hi all,

Does anyone know the difference between English 120 and 122? My college accepts college comp and college comp modular but only for 3 credits--English 120. Pointers?

In looking at their website (searched for CLEP), I can't figure out what UC Equivalencies and COCE Equivalencies are. So I can't help you there.

I'm a little late to the party, but I've taken a lot of CLEPs through SNHU, so I might be able to help.

Are you an online student or a campus student? The difference between ENG 120 and 122 is that the first is the Composition I course for campus students, the second is for online students.

A word of advice for CLEP credit equivalences at SNHU: Check and verify through your advisor first. SNHU has come a long way on becoming more CLEP-friendly, but their course equivalency documents sometimes have errors (by listing only the campus course equivalent, rather than the online equivalent) or are outdated.

SNHU's updated policy generally aligns with ACE recommendations for credit, so if you feel you should be getting more credits than you are, definitely speak to your advisor. A good example of this is the Social Sciences & History exam. Their documentation says 3 credits, ACE says 6. So I contacted my advisor about it, and sure enough -- they gave me 6 credits.

I can say from first-hand experience that SNHU awards 6 credits for the CLEP College Composition with Essay exam -- it equals ENG-122 (Comp I), and an English Elective for online students. Hope this helps!
