Edu. Psych CLEP-How was it? & Study ???s
#1
Hi,
I am new to instant cert. I am going to try and take my first Clep exam at the end of this month and it is the Intro to Education Psych exam. I was wondering how difficult it was for those who have taken it and if you have any study tips or study guides you may have made that worked well. Since I have never taken a CLEP I am worried about how much study time is needed or if I have to go and buy the REA books as well. Any suggestions would be helpful and I am looking forward to getting some credits like so many of you in here.
Thanks.

Welcome!! It's hard to answer some of your questions without knowing more info about your situation Smile For instance, are you in college right now? have you taken any Psych courses at all for a background foundation, do you have knowledge about psychology from work or somewhere else etc etc.... you see where I am going with this. If you have taken any Psych courses like especially Intro to Psych you will have a good foundation going into this test. Psych courses tend to build on each other and overlap... so the more foundation you have the better. I would recommend getting the Official Clep Study guide from your library-- they give you an outline of what they expect you to know for the test and there will be a practice test in the book. I also would go through the IC flashcards and 'Specific Exam Feedback'--if you are a member of IC. With 'Exam Feedback' here on IC there are numerous posts from members giving their view of the test, how hard it was, how long they studied, what to focus your study on etc. That is an invaluable resource. I would also go here. This website has very concise info on all of the clep and dsst tests. And finally I would highly recommend doing the free Peterson practice tests -- (there is a link on the website that i just pointed out ). The Peterson tests are very, very close to the actual test and a great study tool. I also bought an older copy , used textbook for $2 on Amazon. This helped supplement my study a lot. The Peterson tests are what I use to gauge when I am ready to take the exam.

I am very new to the site and I only knew about the flashcards but there are sooo many of them. Thank you for helping me find the info in the post by looking up specific exam info. through the search. Thanks again, I think the information will be truly valuable.

I hope some of the info will help you!! It's just hard to give people advice about how hard the test is or how long to study--- because everyone is so different and there are so many variables in each situation. As for me, I have not been in college classes in 25 years--- so I basically was starting from scratch on some of these exams. My brain isn't as fast now as it use to be either Big Grin ---- so I take longer to study than some people on here. Some people need a few days-- there is no way I can study for these exams in a few days :willynilly: Let us know how it goes or if you have anymore questions. you can do it !Smile

Is there a reason you chose this as your first exam? If you have not taken any Psychology courses this exam will be harder. I bought the REA study guide for this one, but any general psycology book would help.
