I used the free WES Degree Equivalency Tool to get an idea about how a master's degree from the private Universidad Isabel I de Castilla would fare in the US. It's not in the WES database, but a handful of private universities like Isabel I were in the database. I ran checks on several different private universites' one year (60 ECTS credits) Master programs (just the degree Master with an accent mark on the A) and they all came back equivalent to a US master's degree. BTW, 60 ECTS credits equal 30 semester hours. 

Please note that this is not an official check, but only used to give people an idea about degree equivalency. However, based on what I saw, I pulled the trigger and paid the $249. Everything with this set up and degree-granting university checks out. It's all legal and the degrees are real. I think I'm going to do the Master of International Trade.

How do you find the Isabel I in the list of Universities?? When I checked it, there is no such University name in the List. Could you please clarify it, by snapshot or by means of any photos.

Isabel I isn't in their database. I'm guessing that they probably haven't done an official evaluation for the school yet, so have nothing to compare. So, what I did was run the equivalency tool using one of the the other private universities - only 7 of the 21 private universities are in the WES database (using Wikipedia's list). I also sent WES an email asking why Isabel wasn't in their database, but I haven't heard back yet.

I am about done with the Masters in Business and Professional Communication. I have just one more assignment to complete. I am intending to send the transcripts over to WES upon completion to figure out the U.S equivalent. However, I'm not sure as to what evaluation is the best for this. I am assuming the course by course evaluation is best in this instance. I would appreciate any insight that any one may have regarding the process!

Congrats on being done! How long did it take you? Please report back as to how WES evaluates the degree. I'm too new to this entire thing to be able to make a suggestion about what kind of equivalency you should request. I hope someone else replies who has more experience. 

I initially only paid for a master's degree, but I changed my mind and paid the difference and upgraded to the dual MBA plus master's degree, because two masters degrees for $300 can't be beat. I haven't decided what I'm going to do the master's in. I'm trying to find information regarding the demand for international trade professionals and big data and business intelligence professionals. I know big data is in high demand, but I need to see if the courses in the ENEB program are inline with big data courses here in the US. I have no doubt about the degree in international trade because I think that's always going to be in demand due to necessity.

It has taken me right around four months, but due to Covid-19 I have devoted basically every waking moment to the program for at least the past two months. Staying busy has really helped my anxiety during these times, so this program has been super beneficial for me! I will definitely be sure to report back regarding the WES evaluation. I was actually thinking of doing another one of the programs if the evaluation comes back as the equivalent to a US Master degree.

I am very excited and nervous, as well! I have my fingers crossed that this turns out to be a hidden gem of a deal that is deemed to be a suitable equivalent to A US Masters degree.

You went through your program so fast! Did you already work in the field of your degree and are just using the degree to check a box? What were the papers like at the end of each course/section?

Hi everyone.

In base to my limited knowledge and opinion I will like to bring to the table my little grain of sand to this discussion:

About the system of accreditation in Spain and the university studies. you have to take into account 2 thinks:

1)The universities need to be accredited itself. This is a state recognition. If not you are not a university. Then the university can be public or private depending who owns it.

2) Each study (with official accreditation ) at an accredited university needs to be also accredited and lies in the umbrella of the state (a process that is done at the beginning of the creation of the study and later on is revised in a constant manner). If not the title of the study is "titulo propio" of the university and is in the umbrella of the university and can still grant you benefits ( as far as I know it grants you points in the selection process) to attain a working place in the government ( as per the working place regulations which change each time a new place is offered) or as merits for promoting, continuing education, specialization, etc.

The official degree in the university are the ones that allow you to go to a higher degree of education, grant you access to a restricted profession (example : nursing, medicine, architecture, etc) or let you work in public office or public institution in a position related to the studied field which is regulated. The "títulos propios" are more work oriented (usually) and can be seen as unregulated specializations or deeper knowledge in the working field. Still they are granted by a university that has been approved by the state and this give them value and recognition in the work environment but not in the academic environment ( going to a higher degree for example that a master give you access to a PhD).

The degree that grants you the right to practice a REGULATED (this is the magic word) profession is the Bachelor or the Bachelor + Master depending on regulations. For example to be a nurse you have to a 4 years bachelor degree in Spain. To be a Doctor is a study of 6 years with the level of master, to be a lawyer you have to do a bachelor+ specific master for exercising law. Most professions are not regulated. Since this studies are regulated you do not need to make an accreditation exam for example lawyers do not do the BAR exam they have to finish a specific master, nurses do not do the NCLEX they have to finish the bachelor of nursing, doctors do not do the USEMBLE they finish their 6 years master degree (and then make a public examination if they want to study a specialization and something similiar for nurses specialty). The official part and control ensures the level of the study and at the same time establish the minimums and limits who can study it since it establish limits in number of persons who can study ( across study places limits) and many more regulations.

Masters degrees in Spain have either 60 European transfer credits system (ETCS) or 120 ETCS. This depends if they are tough to work with a 4 years bachelor (240etcs) or 3 years bachelor( 180 etc). Theoretically to study a PhD you will need 300 ETC of official studies.

Then.... why not everything has official masters... because official studies are regulated and this includes the price of the credit between many other things ( ranging from the number of teachers in each study , the minimum degree levels etc). 1)So if you have a official study ( as far as I know) each credit price is established officially (still they can charge you more in other concepts) 2) It is a pain and takes long to get accredited 3) requires a lot of staff (which to keep it requires a lot of students) and many more peculiarities.

So official titles are Academic and labor/professional focused.
Titulos propios have tendency ( I´m sure they are exceptions) to be labor/professional oriented.

The equivalency of a "titulo propio" with the seal of a University with 60 ETC/ETCS credits or more in a Master degree compared to the US in my opinion should be a National accredited degree while and official/University master degree ( both names are officially correct) should be a regional accredited degree.

While all that is only my opinion I hope to bring some light to the subject.

I have heard the same issue with communication, but that actually hasn't been my experience at all. The longest it has taken to receive a grade for an assignment was a week and a half to two weeks. I actually sent over quite a few questions ( I am sure they were getting tired of me pestering them  ) and was quite surprised to get answers within a few hours. It may help that I am a night owl and send the emails over in the middle of the night my time and very early morning for them. Regardless of the reasoning, I have been quite pleased thus far.

Noted on the evaluators! I'll be sure to send the transcripts to a few and report back my findings as soon as my last assignment is graded. I'm so excited/nervous!
