As stated in my signature my end goal (for now) are the following degrees:
TESU:
BA CS & English
BSBA
ASBA (redundant but free)
AS Math & CS
CIS cert.
I'll be completely finished with HS in about 2 weeks and then I can solely start focusing on my current courses.
Here is my "game plan" for the next couple of years:
1) Ideally I would like to finish up at TESU by March of 2024 (if it takes a little bit longer or shorter than that it's fine).
2) Use the rest of 2024 to apply for English teaching positions in Korea (Hopefully get placement by January 2025 max)
3) While applying, I'll probably enroll myself for a cheap double masters with ENEB/University Isabel I (MBA/Masters in Big Data and Business Intelligence. (Hopefully, if the courses are self paced I can finish that before January 2025.))
4) I'd like to teach for one to two years in Korea, honestly just dependent on where I am in life at that moment.
5.a) While there I'll get the ENEB masters/MBA evaluated by an US evaluator as well as SAQA. From there I'll probably do another masters (most likely in CS).
5.b) A few programs that have caught my eye: UMPI, YourPace MAOL; GeorgiaTECH, OMSCS; PUG, ExcelTrack MS Cybersecurity; UNISA, MSCS.
Now my questions:
1) Will Korea have issues with the fact that my degrees are online? (In regards to being placed as an English teacher)
2) Is it confirmed whether or not ENEB/University Isabel I, is accepted in Korea or not?
After 1 or 2 years of teaching, I might consider applying for the GKS (Global Korea Scholarship) for my PhD. (Maybe even MEXT- Japan). Does anyone have experience with GKS/Korea and know whether or not they accept degrees like this. I'm aware that MEXT will accept ENEB.
While I will most likely do a masters on top of the ENEB (as I'll be using it more to gather postgrad credits rather than the actual "masters" status), I was just curious if anyone knew whether or not they would accept an ENEB masters for GKS.
If all goes well, this would be my age timeline:
18- currently, enroll in TESU.
19- Finished with TESU, possibly finished with ENEB/busy with ENEB.
20- 1st year in Korea, start with "third" masters.
21- 2nd year in Korea, finish "third" masters. (Apply for GKS or possibly MEXT)
22- 1st year Korean language training (required)
23- 1st year of PhD
24- 2nd year of PhD (possibly finish PhD)
25- 3rd year of PhD (if needed.)
Meaning if I do everything according to my plan and by some miracle, everything just works out, I should be set to find a job within my chosen "settling" country at the age of 25. If any of yall have further advice on how I could perfect this plan, or maybe just advice in general that would be appreciated.

Quote:What Kind of BA is Required to Teach English in Korea?
A 3-4 year qualification earned from an accredited institution is required. Bachelor’s programs less than 3 years are not accepted. Korean immigration accepts both Bachelor’s degrees completed offline as well as online.
Seems fine. I know that "BenTeachesEnglishOverseas" on youtube taught there before, and he has a TESU degree in Liberal Studies. He is the reason I even find this forum.
You may want to look at the Cambridge CELTA/DELTA Certifications too. The DELTA is equivelent of a masters degree in the UK, and you could top it up to an actual master degree in the UK later. You would have to work 1 year first.

1) There shouldn't be any issues, you just need an accredited degree, be it RA or from another country, and they'll most likely review your other requirements to make sure you've matched properly (in other words, look at their requirements and hit them all).
2) Foreign degree evaluations have different outcomes; we won't know exactly how Korea will look at ENEB offerings. It would be recognized though; I would apply with the foreign evaluation from a NACES member instead of Validential or the bottom of the barrel/bucket California FCE.

Hard to say. South Korea has its own standards for evaluating foreign degrees, so best you can do is apply to one and see what they say. Keep in mind that the MBA is a separate program from the Master's in Big Data, they just offer them together. The two Master's thing is a big deal in the Spanish-speaking nations.

It won't matter for hagwons/GEPIK/EPIK. Salaries are going to be relatively low and hours could be long, but you'd have time to study for sure, especially if you're in a rural placement.
Are you interested in the JET Programme in Japan, or specifically geared toward Korea? I was admitted to JET out of college and also worked at a UNESCO-affiliated English village in Gyeonggi-do a long way back. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
I'm unsure about any ENEB program being regarded as an actual Master's there, but as an aside, I feel that Ph.D. timeline could be intense. I'd say to get a TEFL/TESOL cert, since it is expected in many East Asian countries. China would be the path for higher salary, but, you know, it's China. Either way, you will have to go through a lengthy gauntlet to get your background checks and have all of your documents stamped + authenticated by Secretaries of States for visa purposes, so I'd also advise to keep that in mind when considering your timelines. Keep on working to your goal no matter what and you'll be well on your way.

○BA History & Political Science (Minors: Pre-Law, Intl. Studies, Social Studies, Criminal Justice, & Business Admin) | UMPI
○MS Early Childhood Studies: Administration, Management, & Leadership | Walden (3.90)
○Certificate Teachers College College Advising Program | Columbia
○Certificate College Access Counseling | Rice
○Certificate College Admissions Specialist | American School Counselors Association
○Goals: A) EdD/MS in Higher Ed; B) 51/195 Countries; C) Find 3rd good hamburger in Shanghai (accomplished June '19, August '21, and...?)

Keep on working to your goal no matter what and you'll be well on your way. I just want to mention a few things. I looked at JET, but they don't seem AS open to hire South Africans as English teachers, I've seen a few get placement, but yeah they don't seem to be very open in regards to that. I guess the main reason I'm "set" on Korea is because they seem to be the most open towards South African English teachers.
I'm ethnically half Chinese and therefore did consider China for a long time. But my grandparents didn't have the fondest memories of the country since they were refugees. For now at least, I don't think I'd want to live and teach in China. It's definitely a place that I would like to explore, visit and learn more about.
I have already done a 180-hour TEFL cert through i-to-i, however I'll probably try to get CELTA next year, after I'm done with my degree.
As for the placement in Korea. I'm really not picky and honestly I'd love any place. I'm planning on going through a consulting company, just to make the process a bit easier (Korvia).
I'll definitely try and send in an application for JET, but I doubt they'll even consider my application.
Side note: I'm well aware of the entire authentication/apostle process and trust me when I say it's already giving me a headache and I haven't even started yet. xD

Online degrees are not very culturally accepted in South Korea... unless it's from a nationally recognized open university.
You can try to be an English teacher at kindergartens or the first and second year elementary school.

I taught in South Korea for two years and had no issues with my Charter Oak State College bachelor's degree. I was there from 2015-2017, roughly. I taught at a private academy. You should be fine. Charter Oak and TESU don't mention you earned your degree online, via correspondence, or the like. I hope this helps!
