Hi guys,, new here. I'm looking to enroll in the Summer I term. I'm pursuing the BLS Management track.
Do anyone know if a wide range of courses are usually offered in the summer sessions? Ideally, I'd like to complete my degree in a term or two.
Secondly, I transferred in credits from prior uni and Sophia. For the Sciences, I received a bio elective credit (bio Il) in 3C, Environmental Sci from Sophia in 3D. However, for 3E I received only the 1 lab credit from my 3C elective. Can I just take Human Biology from Sophia w/out lab by itself to fullfil the remaining 3 credits for the 3E section. Will it transfer as the corresponding bio 105 at Umpi? If not, is Geology offered as a yourpace course?
Also, is there a good UL elective for the Mgmt minor I can take at Sophia to transfer over to Umpi? Besides Project Management.
Lastly, due to some constraints, I'm planning on completeing my foreign language req (Spanish) at Umpi. I have previous years of intermediate skills from primary days. To those who have gone this route, is the course at least doable to non-natives. I do anticipate more work aside from a Sophia or elsewhere.
Thanks!

First off, UMPI's YourPace program has exactly one science class and you do not want to take it. That one single class will eat up most of your time for an entire session. Not good. But it sounds like you have science covered already. Bio elective + lab is still biology. You do not need to have exactly BIO-105 or anything else. If your audit shows that 3C, 3D, and 3E are covered, then you're good. You can talk to your advisor to confirm, but it sounds like you're good.
Spanish/French at UMPI are other classes that you do not want to take at UMPI, if at all possible. They are geared for people with absolutely 0 knowledge of foreign languages. You say you have intermediate skills from before. If the teacher realizes this, you will be penalized and your grade will be lowered for using "knowledge from outside class". Save your sanity and just blast through Spanish I at Sophia.

That is crazy. I thought the whole point of competency based education was proving competency in a subject, no matter how long it takes you to prove it.
If I take the class with Microsoft Excel and I already am advanced at Excel, I assume the same penalty does not apply. That is completely backwards.

I agree that it's completely crazy. But the instructor who does these classes at UMPI wants you to ONLY use the vocabulary and grammar that the class itself uses. So, if you grew up vaguely aware of some Spanish that isn't mentioned in class, but you use it in your milestones/final, you get penalized.
One student here was already pretty fluent in Spanish, took the class anyway, and got "kicked" to the French class for "knowing too much" Spanish. The student in question didn't mind, but another student might have. IIRC, there was another History degree student who got penalized for knowing the basics of Spanish in their Spanish class at UMPI and got so frustrated that they wound up taking Spanish II from Study.com (this was before Sophia offered both).
This is why we always, always recommend bringing in a foreign language from elsewhere. Spanish @ Sophia, Spanish @ Study.com, ACTFL exam, CLEP exam, language class at your local CC. Anything but UMPI.
Pretty much everything about UMPI is great, with the exception of their language and science classes.

Basically, you want to take the bulk of your credits from alternative credit providers that we recommend, up to 90 credits (75% of the degree for transfer). The only courses you should take at UMPI are ones that can't be transferred into the program for the concentration or major. Essentially, gen eds/free electives should be the ones transferable to max the 90 credits, but in some cases, it's easier to get the courses at UMPI completed, such as their English I/II and the HUM103.

Geology is not offered in YourPace. No one in the program can actually see what courses are offered. They have been offering most courses every session in the fall and spring. In the past, the summer sessions may have fewer courses, but every course is offered at least once per semester.
