Hello everyone,
This is my first time with InstantCert. I am in the process of studying for the DSTT exam "The Civil War and Reconstruction". Has any one here taken that exam already, if so how difficult was it and is it sufficient to only study the flashcards questions within the InstantCert database. Thank you

I am in the process of studying for this exam and have heard it is a hard test. Please check out the specific forum for this test to see what others who have taken the exam have to say about the test itself and what suggestions they have for study materials.

The forum is gold on this one. I made a word document of the forum and we spent days on wikipedia finding answers.

Operalady,
Would you ever be willing to share the word document you made? I'm sure it would be of GREAT help to the rest of us who are studing for it, and would save us the time of having to search the boards.

Hi (see Pm)
Ken Burns series (7 dvd at local libraries) is a must, because it puts you there...may have nightmares after....but you will know who fought..... who, where they fought....and when.
Must know about the amunition used, who was in charge, what they did, why they were appointed, and the general dates major things happened.
Pre and post Antebellum period is a must know too.

Yes, the Ken Burns DVD's will come in really handy especially when it comes to remembering the battles and the generals who led them, they really put you there which helps in retaining the information.
I watched the DVD's and used instacert flashcards, the result: an A.
Good luck!

I took this test about two weeks ago, and like everyone has said, you have to know the facts cold. Not every single one on the flashcards, but the major things that happened. All the battles, where they were, and who fought them. Who killed Lincolin, etc.
The version of the test that I took was very facts-oriented. Only a small amount of the questions were opinion-based (as in, what did Lee think about such-and-such) and there were only two that I just flat out didn't know.
The flashcards are good for the facts, and using another source to supplement them is great too, to fill in any gaps.

Sent you a message.
Also, watch Gods and Generals and Gettysbug if you can. They are so historically accurate (not perfect) that you'll have answers to questions from the films.
