I don't know what you mean about avoiding TESU advising, what is the downside of communication with them? They are there to help you.
Things change all the time with TESU and what comes in as what and how that fits in the degree plan can change anytime without notice. If you verify which courses come in and get those added to your degree plan, you may at least increase your chances of getting an exemption when there is a policy change so you can get those courses added upon completion to your degree.

They are routinely wrong. Like, more often than not, they give you completely incorrect info. Often. All the time can be more like it for some advisors.

They are there to help you... take classes from TESU. Other than that, they will tell you that class X will be okay when it actually doesn't work or they'll tell you that the class won't work when it actually will. Contacting them will often leave you confused and thinking that you need to take classes that aren't actually necessary. Best to avoid unless impossible to do otherwise.

I want to be clear that we aren't chasing to find the outlier and then once we find it use the outlier as a basis to give generalized advice while completely ignoring any logic of math that would be the result of the alternative.
To say that getting approval for ACE/NCCR courses and having them place those courses into your degree plan is a far worse outcome than guessing on your own doesn't add up.
Examples of Outiliers:
Police make errors/or on purpose kill unarmed people, therefore we should avoid police at all times and never call the police when we are in trouble.
Pilots kill people because of pilot errors or on purpose, therefore we should never fly on a plane.
Doctors kill people because of errors or on purpose, therefore we should never go to the doctor.
Internet companies get hacked and people's personal information is stolen, therefore we should never use Internet services that require us to give out personal information.
My guess you what you are saying is that if you find the EXACT right trustworthy person, taking the EXACT right degree, at the EXACT right time and assuming they are skilled at knowing how to search for information, then they are better off. However I don't see why you don't search for information first, then confirm things.

As dfrecore said, they are usually wrong. Advisors from EC and COSC are sometimes wrong but we don't tell people to avoid them. The ones at UMPI haven't been wrong yet. TESU is the only one that we advise people to avoid as much as possible.

Outlier at TESU - when an advisor actually gives you correct info. Not even exaggerating, they are terrible. You should avoid them if at all possible.
If you don't believe me, you can search this forum - there are hundreds (maybe thousands) of instances where a TESU advisor gave the wrong info, over the last 10+ years. There are very few instances where people got the right info. NOTE: this is not the same as when people report where courses came in on an evaluation, which is done by a registrar rather than an advisor. In that case, I have no issues.

It seems I was the minority when it comes to TESU's advising. I've never had any issues *knock on wood*, but I think it's because I always talked to the same person and beforehand I always had my plan laid out and he just went with it lol

I have 4 separate degrees with TESU, no issues whatsoever with TESU advising.
Check the equivalency lists, check the information on DF, plan out your degree, and then verify with TESU advising is always going to be my recommendation.
It's not going to hurt you communicating with TESU.

There's tons of posts on here about the advisors saying a class doesn't meet a requirement or transfers in as something other than it does. Maybe you just had an advisor who knew what they were doing. Many don't. This is the case at many schools. Advisors don't seem to be well trained in all areas. Their goal is to get everyone to pay tuition at their school. Not earn credits elsewhere and transfer them in. Some schools are really snarky about this.

There are tons of threads, this one included about people that took classes that don't fit their degree plan.
Another thread I recall someone took Risk Management at Study.com, found out after the fact it was only worth 2 credits which didn't fit any degree plan.
Most of these problems wouldn't be happening if these courses were verified by TESU advising and added to their planned courses before they took the course.
I don't need to research DegreeForum to find advisor errors because all I need to find is one error made without using advisors and that would be all the proof I need to use the free advising service.
I also don't need to bring the skeletons out of the closet of the top posting DF people that were wrong here about what courses went where for certain degrees.
