Are you going for CJ or something else? I just looked at the non YourPace CJ minor, I think all the courses in the minor is already in the YourPace program. Technically, if you get permission, you can do a BAS or BLS CJ minor... Don't worry if they won't allow it, ask for a different minor you may be interested in. You can quickly get the degrees finished and work on a Masters in CJ at Walden or something else, their programs are inexpensive and RA - $2900/term + $165/fee, you can finish in two terms for ~$6000.

PowerPoints with voiceovers are really common at UMPI.

The BLS doesn't have an actual major and you can't create a major. The majors offered in YourPace are English/Journalism, Criminal Justice, History/Poli Sci, Accounting, Bus Admin. You have complete any minor in YourPace for the BLS. You can complete all 5 of them if you want. Depending on what you transfer in with you MAY - may being the keyword - be able to complete a minor that's not offered in YourPace but is offered on campus. You can't compete the on campus degrees to YourPace. We don't have the same courses at all. We have only a handful of courses available compared to on campus.

Understood, I meant more like if I were to pursue a YourPace BA in English and satisfy all of the English core requirements but instead of doing the Professional Communication & Journalism concentration instead choose to do an education minor or something along those lines.

I don't know how to word it and if that means anything different to you than what I said before

I will no longer be going for CJ as a major as I want to avoid the capstone course but a minor would be great for me. You are right though, I absolutely plan on getting my Masters immediately after my Bachelors so it's probably a moot point in the grand scheme.

I wonder if they would let me do YourPace to knock out all the English classes and then switch to the regular online UMPI and let me get just a BA in English without having to do the journalism stuff.

Is there a good number to reach out to someone? I saw that I should avoid the number posted on the website as it's a third party not associated with UMPI?

I just checked and there is only one course for the on campus students for the BA English degree that is not offered on YourPace.

Assuming I can transfer in enough electives to make up for the subtraction of the Professional Communication & Journalism credits could I not hop on YourPace to bang out all of the English requirements and then enroll in UMPI's normal online program to finish the one last course?

You can't not complete the communication/journalism courses to complete the BA in English. They're part of the degree. You can always reach out to UMPI and ask about it, but it's my understanding that there's no way to complete the degree without it. Or you could just do the BLS with the Educational Studies minor. BLS is easy to get done and can be done quickly.

I'm sure you can add CJ as a minor. When I was going for my Business degree, I asked if that if I had time, could I add one or maybe two minors and one of them was Criminal Justice. Jessica said she thought it was a great idea. I ran out of time so I didn't end up pursuing it. The only course that I don't see on YourPace for the CJ minor is CRJ 130. I'm not sure if that's something you can skip or maybe see if you can bring it in from elsewhere. I checked study and I don't see anything similar to that but if you can find something as close to it, ask Jessica to see if it can be used to substitute the course.

Right, I can't complete that on YourPace. However, if you look at the Online BA English degree and compare it to the YourPace BA English Professional Communication & Journalism degree the only course not offered on YourPace is ENG 3XX Language and Theory.

What would be stopping me from enrolling in YourPace and doing all of the English core requirements and ignoring the concentration courses since they're not required on the regular UMPI Online degree. Sure I wouldn't finish the YourPace degree but couldn't I then just enroll in the Online BA English program and do only the Language and Theory course that wasn't offered on YourPace and graduate with a BA in English without having to waste time on the concentration courses?

I'll call that number and see if I can get any luck

You'll be paying out of state tuition along with fees for the Online BA English degree. You won't be paying YourPace tuition. You'll also be in a semester program not the sessions in YourPace. You will need to wait for the course to be offered as well. Probably not the easiest, cheapest, or fastest way to get a degree in English.

Assuming 6 months (3 sessions) of YourPace: $4200.
1 3-credit English class @ $392/credit: $1176
Student Activity fee: $42.50
Unified student fee x 3: $93
------------
Total, assuming this is possible: $5511.50

This is going to be cheaper than TESU's English degree.

But it's only a single course.  This could be the optimal way to get an inexpensive English degree.  You might even be able to take this course elsewhere and bring it in (Linguistics is fairly popular).

I just spoke with someone at UMPI and they said it was a good idea and made sense to them but they were going to double check to make sure it's possible.

Assuming you saved Composition II for UMPI there are 6 English core courses on YourPace (Technically 7 but "Studies in the English Language isn't required for the regular online degree so I don't anticipate having to take it). Including the Language and Theory course not offered on YourPace that leaves you with 3 courses you take on YourPace to meet Gen Ed/Elective requirements or put those towards a minor.

Yeah it sucks having to do a normal paced online class but it's a trade off if you don't want to do the 8 classes + field experience practicum for the Professional Communication & Journalism concentration.

Since you'll have to take 3 extra courses on YourPace anyway to meet the 30 credit requirement you might as well take Change Leadership, Business Communication and Intro to Project Management with Microsoft Projects since you can transfer in Leadership, Human Resource Management, and Operations Management from Study and get you an easy minor in Management.

6 English Core courses
Composition II
3 Courses towards a minor
1 Regular Online Course

The rest can be transferred in.. You'd have a BA in English with a Management minor easier than you could get the BA in English with Professional Communication & Leadership concentration. Skip out of the field experience practicum and take less courses at UMPI just might take a little longer.
