Psychology 2nd degree plan
#1
Hello all, in 2022 I earned my BAS with minors in Political Science and Social Studies. I had a ton of fun in school and it helped me land a job in federal law enforcement. I just came back from a military deployment and am looking to make a career change (still in federal LE). In order to do this, I would like to boost my odds a little more and go and get my BA in Psychology with a Pre-Law and Sociology minor.

I've gone ahead and did the what-if report that UMPI offers and there are a number of courses I will need to complete. The good news is that time is not a worry of mine. On the other hand, grades are. I would like to keep the door open for law school down the line and for this reason I am wondering if there are easier sources of credit for the following courses...I don't necessarily care about the amount of work required, just if the professors are known to be harsher/more lenient on grading and what the popular paths are for transferring in credits.

For the Psychology major the courses needed are

PSY 205 Lifespan Development
PSY 311 Research Methods I
PSY 446 Psychobiology

and 9 from the following

PSY/SOC 200
PSY 235
PSY 341
PSY 360
PSY 370
PSY 374
PSY 375
PSY 380
PSY 382
PSY 448
PSY 496

For the Pre-Law minor the only course I need is Business Communication

For Sociology I need any 3 UL SOC courses.

Basically, UMPI requires 30 credits for your second degree, this is for program residency credits. I don't know if you have enough credits to transfer in, but I would recommend getting as many credits transferred as possible, you should investigate what can transfer from Study.com into the requirements and only complete the minimum at UMPI.

I would look into SUNY . They have or had.. the ability to take the GRE subject test for credit. If you do well enough on that you can obtain a very generous amount of credit, some of which is upper level. Back in the day,, I used John Bears advice and did this with USNY/ Regents. One GRE test , 97 percent score..30 credits and that got me to a BS in Psychology Smile.

That's been a while since any institution has accepted GRE subject matter exams for 30 credit hours, Excelsior was probably the last one of the bunch to go the way of the Dodo. I really wonder if SUNY will do anything similar with a subject matter exam, maybe someone should inquire...
