Combining CLEP with Community College
#1
I would like to get my bachelors by mostly passing CLEPs, but I want to also take a few "normal" college classes, like at a comm. college. I don't really know where to start (other than passing CLEP tests ;0 ) Does anyone have experience with this approach? Thanks!

Contact the admissions or cashiers office and ask them if they proctor CLEP or DSST exams there. The college I go to administers clep, but I have to go to a nearby university if I want to take a dsst. If they do ask for an exam listing and pick the tests that fit best into you degree path.

You can take them anywhere...only caveat is that if they require an essay those are usually graded by their staff. SO those exams should be taken at the CC.

You need to find the colleges CLEP/DSST policy or talk to the registrar about how many and which exams they will take. My daughter knocked out about 30 credits this way.

It's a solid plan!

I'm always happy to complete the free application waiver for those applying to WGU (I get a free gift from WGU for this).  Just PM me your first/last name and a valid email so I can complete their form.

Hi gnpine,
Do you have a college in mind? If you are planning on going to one of the Big 3, then all you need to do is find make a degree plan and the get all the necessary transcripts to the school. If you are planning on attending another 4 year university, make sure to check if they accept the DSST/CLEPs you took.

thanks for the input
@durandtheman - I don't have a college in mind for sure . . . leaning towards TESC but I wanted to try and get most of the credits at a comm. college or through CLEP before I enroll at TESC or wherever I end up at.

If your close, and the local CC accepts the right exams it makes sense to gain the AA/AS through them before moving on. this gets a degree in hand and usually does it for a fraction of the cost of one of the big three.....depending on where you are of course. Smile

This is what I'm doing right now. I just re-enrolled after dropping out for a few years. Between My CLEP / DSST exams and my previous coursework I should be able to walk away with at least two Associates Degrees, one in IT and another in Liberal arts.
