CollegePlus is Now Lumerit Education/Scholar
#21
cookderosa Wrote:Nope, you still get to pay for those 45 credits via CLEP and your local testing center. https://collegeplus.org/pricing
Each exam is 3 credits, so add in 15 exams (x80ea) and you're up another $1200 plus proctoring fees (x20ea) so another $300 there.

Any student can come here and earn 45 CLEP credits for $1500
Every CP student must pay $7300 for those same 45 credits.

You're paying $5800 per year for 1/month academic coaching. That's more than $480 per session. I wonder if CP allows their students to take math? 15 minutes with a calculator and these guys could go out of business.

Why do you say 1 month of academic coaching? Their site says you get coaching twice a month for the whole year. But I agree, terribly overpriced.

1/month = 1 per month.

I'm so tempted to say something to get this thread well up into the double digit page count...

Well duh, you know I checked to read the updated post. Wink

Most members here are pragmatic to a fault.
member A) "I can earn that credit for $108."
member B) "well, I can earn that credit for $105."
<<<<loud applause>>>

So, clearly, it's something else. Enter: psychology!

Here is a list I borrowed about how people are induced:

-Appeals to trust and authority
-use triggers that focus on the huge prizes or benefits on offer
-personalized to create the impression that the offer is unique to the recipient
-disproportionate relation between the size of the alleged reward and the cost of trying to obtain it
-extra vulnerability in those who are socially isolated, because social networks often induce us to regulate our emotions

At the risk of being too hard on this company, let me say this- they are a legitimate company, that's not the issue.

What seems to be lost on some new members/lurkers is that there is NOTHING TO GAIN when our members poke holes in the motives and transparency of this company. No one here is PAID anything for any of the free advice and guidance offered here.

This board is a model of servant leadership. If someone can't see that, no one will be able to convince them otherwise through logic and pragmatism. Of course, they are the perfect customer for Lumerit.

Actually you can do it one of two ways.
lumerit seems very similar to study.com . They have etexts, audio and lectures who in turn give you quizes and then a final. This is there newer program. However, you can do it the clep way as well. They give coaching for the entire time and also fight for your ace credits if needed.. For me liberty university.. will give me a 20% discount for the rest of my college if I go through lumerit. So there are some advantages..

20% off is still way too much for the service, especially it's so similar to Study.com. Why not just save all of that money and pay for the cheaper Study.com?

Edit: misread that as a 20% discount to lumerit. Actually reads as if Liberty tuition is 20% discounted, which is interesting.

You can only earn a total of 18 credits through Lumerit. You can buy their courses that are NOT ACE evaluated if you want, but you'd still need to register and pay for a credit exam if you wanted college credit.

Community Service Learning, 3 cr.
Entrepreneurship, 3 cr.
Worldviews, 3 cr.
Leadership Management Communication, 3 cr.
Leadership Theory, 3 cr.
Social Justice Biblical Perspective, 3 cr.

Study.com is up to like 85 classes and something like 250+ available college credits. They landed their first ACE evaluated courses in the summer of 2014. Lumerit's courses have held ACE evaluation since 2012 - they aren't new guys at all.

My son took CP a while back before it was lumerit. Yes its more than just coaching.. its goal setting, making sure that your taking the proper things that will transfer over. Making sure that your ontrack with your goal.. If your having trouble they will help you and get you the resources to help you be successful. My son worked full time and did college plus. The 6000 a year gives you leadership workshops, plus mentorship/coaching and personal coaching. these two are different. When my son was done with college plus they did let him out of his contract. The classes ended up at 140.00 per class + clep unless you take just the online class. then its 140.00 month. Now its been a few years and I see more available out there and yes you can do it cheaper. But, lumerit is still a good program if you want all those added perks. Oh and almost forgot they give you 20% discount at some of the colleges when you transfer over the entire tuition.

None of that is worth $6,000, at least for most folks.
