College Math Clep

So I have 2 days to study for this clep. The problem I am running into is that I am only able to retain so much at one time, and given the exactness of math, vague understandings of several concepts will perhaps not help as much as knowing a smaller number of ideas real well, or better knowing a little about several different things. So, if you were me, and you had only a few days, what would you concentrate on? I have been looking at functions, and believe that I know the basics so I am thinking that I need to approach probability next, and then memorize a couple of geometry formulas. Do not know though, thoughts would be appreciated. By the way, have taken 2 remedial math classes so have a mild understanding of certain things like functions, graphs, etc.

Is it possible to give yourself more time to prepare? Taking a few more days or weeks to study to make sure you pass can be better than having to wait six months to retake the exam or finding another, possibly harder, math exam to take instead.

Also, check the Official CLEP Study Guide for the topics covered. For instance, I don't remember a lot of probability problems on this exam.

Yeah, all the threads that say something to the effect of "I have 2 days until..." kill me. If one is close to the score one wants/needs on practice tests then pick any part of the material and drill on it to get over the hump. If one isn't even close to said score then 2 days is almost never enough time to fix that.

In some ways I appreciate the sentiment expressed regarding last minute 'fix all's'. Certainly in this arena there are many who are looking for instant gratification, or quick fixes without putting in the labor. However there are some reasons that I am very limited on time , which I will not go into because it does not really seem to pertain, nor do I expect that others really care. Suffice to say this will be my fourth Clep test, the first three I passed studying perhaps 1-2 weeks for each. I am not a novice at this and understand that there is some normal pattern which is advisable to follow, though this go around I simply cannot do the study, test, brush up simulation (although I have taken math prerequisite classes recently). I am hoping that there are some who might be empathetic, not knowing the particulars of my situation.

Certainly in this arena there are many who are looking for instant gratification, or quick fixes without putting in the labor. However there are some reasons that I am very limited on time , which I will not go into because it does not really seem to pertain, nor do I expect that others really care. Suffice to say this will be my fourth Clep test, the first three I passed studying perhaps 1-2 weeks for each. I am also studying to take the College math CLEP on May 10, however, unlike you, the last time I took a math class was 20 years ago. In my case, I am going thru all sections of the guide. My strategy is to be able to get at least 80% in all sections -- I have to admit that 5 days before D day I am not at 80% though I'm having a tough time with the function and graphs section along with some of the probability questions.

I didn't mean to sound like I had an attitude about people who ask for help on short notice. I sincerely meant I don't know what people expect to hear. I wasn't being facetious or sarcastic, I meant what I said: you are either close to your target score or not. If not then with two days left you're probably screwed. If you are close then you only have enough time to make one "bad" topic "good", or one good one great. Whether you have a good reason for such short notice or a bad one doesn't change your obstacle.

If it were me, based on what I know of math now, I wouldn't spend much time on the prob&stat section. It's less connected to the other sections so while it's the biggest single section it's an island. Not much carryover. This is from someone who hasn't taken (and won't) any math CLEPs, just a math major guy. I have experienced how every one of those other topics is connected to each other and actually is interdependent with each other. On the other hand, I haven't even had to take Stats101 at all for my math degree. So I'd skip it if I were you. But if anyone who has actually taken this CLEP and nailed it says otherwise then listen to them. Good luck.
