I did a search and didn't find anything really relevant to my topic, but I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong area. I'm sort of uncertain if I am allowed to post it here or if I should have posted in the specific exam section. If it's in the wrong place, I apologize.
I recently took the new (as of July 2010) CLEP College Composition exam. I had a few questions.
The CLEP site specifically states that the College Composition exam will not print out a score immediately after taking the test, but mine did. It gave me a score of 38. My questions are as follows: Is this my final score? It couldn't have counted the essays, and because of that I would like to know how much the Essay section is 'worth'. The website acts as though the essay section is a combined score that is weighted equally with the other portion of the exam. Does this mean that if I did rather well on the essay section that I still have a chance to pass the exam? The score of 38 just has me nervous, and I would like to know how much higher my score can go based upon the essays. Any help or answers are appreciated!

I don't know the answer to your question as I took the old college comp test and it did not give me a score at the completion of the exam. My score came through the mail and I did not pass the first time. Missed it by one point.

It was weird because the website specifically states that your score will NOT be given out immediately, and yet it did print off (at least part of) mine.

I've heard of some places printing out a response to the multiple choice but the essays are half the grade. If you did well, you should be fine.

Thank you for the reply!
Would you think that 38 (scaled) on the multiple choice is ok then? The recommended score for the course credit is 50 (counting the essay section), so then I should be ok if I did well on the essay section?

There are essentially two ways of looking at it, though. If they take the average of the choice and essay scores, then you're in big trouble. But if they scale each part down, then add them together, you're pretty much sure to pass.

Sounds to me like you bombed it.
The 38 is more than likely your scaled score. The essays / Multiple Choice are weighted equally so you're probably looking at below the ACE 50. Even with a perfect score on the essays, I'm betting you end up with a combined score of below 50.
Edit: Removed some insider knowledge.

I took it cold. I wouldnt suggest that. It wasn't a smart move. I got my results the other day and I got a 51. I was lucky, but it taught me a lesson. I only had 3 paragraph essays. They were decent, but I think the length hurt me.

I got a 54 with two four paragraph essays. There really isn't much time. I just made the timer on both and didn't have time to review either of them. If I had to do it again (and I'm glad I don't) I would pratice a few essays with a timer first. I did write the intro and conclusion first so I would have a strong beginning and end. I'm glad I did or I would not have had any conclusion.
