Chemistry study materials and Clep test
#1
I need high school chemistry as a pre-req. Have any of you needed it and if so where did you turn to for study materials?

I am not understanding your situation and would like to know more. What do you need chemistry as a high school prerequisite for? How will the Chemistry CLEP count towards that?

Anyway, I will be starting to study for this exam in one month. I will study for 2 months before I take this exam.

I am planning to use Schaum's Outline of College Chemistry. I decided to use the 8th ed instead of the 9th.

Amazon.com: Schaum's Outline of College Chemistry: Jerome L Rosenberg, Lawrence Epstein: Books

I have also seen Chemistry Concepts and Problems recommended:

Amazon.com: Chemistry: Concepts and Problems: A Self-Teaching Guide (Wiley Self-Teaching Guides): Clifford C. Houk, Richard Post: Books

This is not a very popular test to take. I am not sure what else I will use to study. I hope to have more information to offer in 3 months. [See update posted in July below.]

Best wishes on your exam! Please let me know more about why you need it. Plus, if you do take it soon, I'd love to have more feedback from you about it.

Hi Sunshine!

That is good to know. I'm glad that I won't be doing this "alone", and if I find any useful information, that it will be helpful to you right away.

I have been studying for the Chemistry CLEP for a couple of weeks and wanted to post an update for anyone who is interested.

The Schaum's book that I mentioned earlier is not all-inclusive. There are a lot of basic foundational concepts, like how the periodic table is set up, that need to be found elsewhere.

I am going to try a few other resources in addition to the Schaums book, so far it is helping:

Chemistry - CliffsNotes

Chemistry Study Guides - SparkNotes

SparkNotes: SAT Chemistry

online videos - Resource: The World of Chemistry

A fellow studier also recommended ALEKS -- Assessment and Learning, K-12, Higher Education, Automated Tutor, Math to me, but I have not tried that, yet.

Another update:

I was hoping to take this exam next month, but I think I am going to need a few more weeks to study, so the earliest I will try it is mid-September.

I have also ordered 2 more books - Chemistry Concepts and Problems and REA CLEP.

Amazon.com: Chemistry: Concepts and Problems: A Self-Teaching Guide (Wiley Self-Teaching Guides): Clifford C. Houk, Richard Post: Books

Amazon.com: CLEP Chemistry (REA) The Best Test Prep for (REA Test Preps): Kevin R. Reel: Books

Sunshine - Have you started to study for this? When are you planning to take it?

Is anyone else planning to take this soon?

Without revealing anything know how to use the table but know moles etc better. The table will be what it is on the exam. Like I said I failed by 3 points. It was heartbreaking. It was not because of my pass your class study guide though which really did cover everything I needed to know. I just didnt know everything that was covered.

Also I think the chemistry Clep should cover a requirment, but dont assume it will. They may require a certain score to award you lab hours. If not u will find yourself taking that course again after the clep so verify its a solution to your problem.

All the Best
Cool
