California Coast University - Anyone done a Masters? Graduate Certificate?

First, I know it's NA, and that's okay.  My BS and MS are both RA.

So I'll finish my MS Management and Leadership at WGU by March.  By the way, it is easily doable in a 6-month term... but I fooled around and it's costing me 3-months of a second term at $4000.  

I want to move from healthcare administration where I have spent my whole career, into HR.  So... I'm thinking of doing a HR graduate certificate through CCU... and then I was looking at the CCU MBA in Human Resources... maybe?   If I do the certificate first, then all 4 courses apply to the MBA.  That would leave 8 courses to get the MBA.

But, I'd like to know if anyone has actually done a graduate certificate or a Masters.  If so, what were your thoughts and experience?

I didn't know much about the school until I saw one of my VP's resume and saw he got his Masters there. 

I received both of my Undergrads from Excelsior College (RA) and both Graduate Degrees from CalCoast (MS Psychology and MBA in Management).  BOTH of these CalCoast degrees allowed me to teach at the collegiate level as an adjunct professor.

CalCoast has a very affordable tuition for the last decade, they have monthly payment plans that really work well, but with the emerging CBE Masters programs, the pricing isn't as attractive as before because the cost would be similar to a RA institution. For example, a Masters is 230 x 36 = $8,280 for tuition alone. A comparable Masters tuition at WGU would be the same cost in two terms. When I was looking at Higher Education programs (E.DD) - What was attractive for me was CalCoast's Doctoral tuition fees, it's under $300/credit - 290x66 = $19,140 tuition alone.

With the 50% tuition reduction, you're looking at $1425 all-in each 3-month term. Walden is also RA.

You're getting your MSML from WGU, right? Why not just stay there and complete their MBA? You won't have to do all 10 classes. There's a few that overlap. I think it's only 6 more classes to complete the WGU MBA once you've completed the MSML. 

Is there any reason you're looking at CCU besides the VP went there? I'd definitely look at a number of programs. You could get your MBA at WGU in less than 1 term and then work on an HR graduate certificate. There are also certificate programs on edX and Coursera from big name colleges. This might be something to look into. Some of those certificates transfer for credit into those colleges.

Their accreditations are actually pretty respectful too. https://www.calcoast.edu/accreditation.html They pretty much went after nearly every major accreditation, the only one they're missing is the regional one for California. It wouldn't surprise me if they get it soon, looking at their list of how they went after nearly every possible accrediation.

It's a common misconception, but despite the last letter of the acronym of its name, CHEA is not an accreditor. CHEA is an organization that supports accreditation and its principles, and their approval has become very important in the United States.

BPPE is a state approval organization. Some states do accredit schools, like New York State's Board of Regents which accredits 12 or so schools, but in the case of BPPE and CCU this is only an approval relationship, no accreditation is being done on CCU by the BPPE.

Everything listed under "Other Professional and Academic Affiliations and Listings" is not the institutional accreditation that is most necessary and relevant to our concerns like the DEAC which is an institutional accreditor.
