Besides this thread
http://www.degreeforum.net/excelsior-tho...cture.html can anyone give any advice to help with this courses? I'm currently on Week 7 and I'm having trouble learning this stuff.
COS-330 Computer Architecture and COS-352 Operating Systems
*ASSUME YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT THE TOPIC AND IT'S NOW WEEK 7*
If you had 5 days and 12 hours a day how would you go about studying to ensure you'd pass the midterm for both classes?

I took Operating Systems over the summer. I didn't find the textbook to be as helpful as it should have been though I did read the whole thing. I supplemented it with a free online operating systems class from Udacity. I didn't watch every video as the course is actually set up for master's students. I just watched the videos for the topics I was having trouble with such as semaphores.

Also, the midterm is open book but you still need to have a good grasp of the information as all the questions are all essay. As you go through the text, just look for topics that you would have difficulty explaining as many of the questions are phrased like "explain x and y and list how they are similar".

For COS-330 with Torsiello, both exams are random selection from a question bank. So I can't tell you what is on the exam. You should have a list of topics from Torsiello. Review all of the topics and spend more time on weak topics. I would do all the homework assigned so far. The test will be easy if you got 100% on the homework and can do it again closed book. You need to know MARIE and memorize the registers. For the essay part of the exam with Torsiello, the important thing is to not leave it blank to maximize the generous partial credit. Write as much as possible. If you have to go on a tangent to avoid a blank answer, do so.

The COS-330 textbook is too dense, I find myself looking on wikipedia and youtube for short overviews of terms. Is that the proper way to go about it?
Do you remember the # of questions on the exam?
Thanks everyone, I'll update later on in the week.

The book is terrible, but you need to reread it after looking at external resources. I don't remember the number of questions, but time was sufficient.

Because 2 years ago, when this thread was created, study.com didn't have those courses.

FYI, COS-330 Computer Architecture is offered at Study.com and COS-352 Operating Systems is not yet UL at Study.com as the corresponding CS 305 course at Study.com is recommended as COS-240. I'm still waiting for it to be bumped up to a UL.
