CLEP credit without being enrolled in a college
#1
I whipped out the final 33 credits of my BA using only CLEP and loved the process. I am now almost done with my Masters in a year doing distance courses, writing the papers, taking the tests and love this too.

My husband needed one class in World History to meet a teaching requirement. Anywhere, any class. So he took the CLEP and did fine. All on my sage advice. BUT ...he is not enrolled in a college so he is having a heck of a time getting a transcript to give to the school district. He did enrolled in Ft Hayes but three separate people there told him he had to actually take a class before he could get a transcript issued. Ft Hayes has his CLEP and he applied and was accepted. BUT he has no need or intention of taking a class with them. TESC said the same thing.

What are we missing????? He only needs to turn the CLEP into a transcript and the school district will not take just the CLEP...it has been turned into a transcript from anywhere.

Ideas????? Thanks !!!!!!!

I should add............if it matters .........my husband has his Masters already and is only needing the 3 credits of World History to finish the credit requirements to have a Social Studies endorsement. That is why he is not enrolled in a college. Any suggestions???

So the district will not take the Clep exam from clep? Well I guess he could always just knock 1 course off through Straighterline and place that course on a Fort Hays transcript. Micro or Macro would also be considered a SS.

Isn't it sort of crazy they will take the Clep exam but not from Clep it has to be blessed through a school. Crazy.

Would it work to request a transcript from College Board? Or is that the very transcript the district school is rejecting? I find it odd that they wouldn't accept something that a Regionally Accredited college would have to problem with, but you never know...

Hold on. First, if you go through Ft Hayes or anywhere, you WILL NOT have an official transcript, it will be transfer credit. That's not what he needs because that won't be the official (source) issuer of the credit.
The ONLY place that can give you an official transcript is http://www.collegeboard.com It will cost $20 and they can send it to anyone. Stop wasting your time with colleges, you are adding a middle man.

This is a perfect thing for the Excelsior College credit bank. The credit bank is a way to consolidate college credit on a transcript without actually enrolling in a degree program.

How about an ACE transcript, if all else fails?

Thanks for the notes but I think I must not have made my issue clear enough. The school needs to have the 3 credits on a college transcript. Any college transcript.... Ft Hayes, Penn Foster, Prision State College, etc.

The problem is that FT HAYES where he did apply and was accepted clearly stated that he MUST be taking at least one course to get a transcript. Three separate administrative clerks at Ft Hayes told him that he can not simply have his CLEP sent to them (which he did and they do have) and then get a transcript.

I just really thought that I read over and over that many people were running their CLEP credits through Ft H and I do not recall them taking courses thru them.

I need more help on this. My marriage and sanity and street cred all rest on getting this solved. OK OK ...maybe I will get an extra nice evening out with my sweet husband if you help me solve this for him.

Thanks as always..... I do miss hanging out on this board and working on degree plans!

Respectfully, I think you need to reread your state's policy and talk to someone over in the office besides a receptionist. There is no reason that the issuer of the credit is being considered less credible than the launderer of the credit- someone is confused. They are asking you to produce a secondary transcript. May I ask what state you are in? Let's look at the wording and see what we can do. You need to press this, the person telling you this is mistaken.

He has confirmed that they will not take the credit direct from CLEP. It has to be on a transcript from a college, university, Junior College...any institution of higher learning. This is coming direct from the cooridinator who handles the credit processing for the Department of Defense in Washington DC.

We are not giving up on figuring a way to get these three meazly credits slapped on a transcript somewhere. Thinking Thinking Thinking...............
